2004 Chevrolet Colorado

by nwram , May 15 '04
Pros: Style, slick 5 speed, good ventilation.
Cons: Driver's seat, axle ratio, missing exterior door lock
The following comments apply to the base model regular cab Z85, 2.8L, 5sp manual, 3.42 axle ratio, no options: 1. Ride. Comfortable on smooth roads. Unladen, except for driver and passenger, the ride is punishing on rough interstate roads. There is ...

Chevy Colorado a great midsized truck

by craftgun40 Epinions Most Popular Authors - Top 1000, Nov 06 '04
Pros: midsize, low riding, attractive and functional
Cons: wind rush sound passenger window
We recently purchased the 2004 Colorado, with all the great cashbacks the dealer was offering ($4,500), it seemed a great time to replace our old Dodge Dakota. Our Colorado 2wd LS EXT cab ZQ8(with these options) has the vortec 3500 220hp 15 engine, hd ...

You can have mine

by fooledonce , Dec 28 '06
Pros: Body looks nice. Makes a good beater.
Cons: Couldn't even get started with 15 words.
The other reviews seem to have been written by Chevy dealers. I have the 2004 Z71, crew cab 5 cyl auto trans. I owned 4 Toyota trucks prior to this Chevy and will return after the worst of the financial bath I'll take on this truck has subsided. Just had ...

Great Truck
by drsavak ,Jan 25 '04
Pros: Everything. The new engine, the interior, the exterior, suspension
Cons: none that i have found so far.
When GM made this truck it had the vision of a truck that would not only replace the S10 but also make every truck maker shake in their boots. And By god they have done it. Here is the question that all other truck makers are going to have to face "Do we redesign our midsize truck or just let GM take the Sector?"

I bought the crew Can Z71 LS 1SF. And I think it is worth every cent.
This car is well engineered and even better built. The inline 5 3.5L engine is smooth and powerful with good fuel efficiency. The suspension of the Z71 is well balanced but tough as it needs to be for off-roading. The interior is well constructed and stylish but still rugged.

I can go on and on about this truck but let me just summarize by saying that this truck redefined what the midsize pickup is. Until the competitors (FORD, DODGE, TOYOTA, NISSAN) come up with a new truck this baby is in a league of its own.

Excellent Truck
by chris1046 ,Jan 27 '04
Pros: Power,looks,price
Cons: no key lock for the passenger door.
I bought the Z71 LS 4x4. And I think it is worth every cent.

I have owned mine for 1 month now and still have 2 to 3 people come in to where I work asking if they can look at it.

When Chevorlet made this truck they got it right!!

Z-71 Crew Cab Colorado
by JWcamp ,Feb 01 '05
Pros: Ride, Seats, Radio, Comfort, Transfer case, Looks, Front and side air bags, rear seat room.
Cons: Power band, Automatic transmission, Gas mileage, A/C and Defroster, Sheet metal too thin.
General Motors has a good little truck in the Canyon/Colorado.
I have had mine for about 12,000 miles and have not really had any problems.
The Truck I have is the Crew Cab, five cylinder engine, automatic transmission, heated leather seats, air conditioning, am/fm CD player, Z-71 off road 4x4 package, 3.73 axle ratio, power side windows, power door locks, sliding rear window.

The truck rides extremely well in almost any road conditions.
The backseat room is great, adults have no problems even on long rides.
The engine is strong at high rpm's, but it feels slightly sluggish with automatic transmission with my normal driving style.
The power door lock switch is terrible, I end up bumping it on and off without even trying.
The windshield defogger is weak, on really cold days it has a hard time keeping the windshield clear.
I like the Radio/CD changer, load clear, very little distortion.
EDIT 12/06: First time I have had to take the truck back to the dealer. The heater/AC blower/fan was starting to make a bearing noise. The dealer put in a new blower motor under warranty. I still like the truck, still going strong!

Ford guy says "I'd buy one!"
by mysterish ,Jul 16 '04
Pros: I5 power with fuel economy, excellent commuter vehicle, great highway ride.
Cons: Chevy name on the side, rough off road, slick dashboard (Thomas guide slides everywhere).
I am a Ford guy, and I believe that Chevy knew what they were doing with this one. I drive a huge , lifted 96' F150 and this Colorado makes for an excellent commuter.
My company bought me a Colorado to replace my company S-10. It has the new I5, auto, a/c, regular cab,no carpet, no tape or CD, just a straight work truck. I drive it from my house to multiple work sites daily averaging about 250 to 300 miles a day.. I have had it for about three and a half months and 13,000 and I like it. Engine is plenty strong with excellent fuel economy. Auto trans knows exactly were it should be at all times. Ride is great on highway. Off road is another story but I'm sure the Z71 package improves that. More roomy than the S-10. Don't know what they paid fr it so I can't comment on the value.

2004 Chevy Colorado Review
by jspt46 ,Mar 31 '04
Pros: Strong 3.5L engine, the look of the sport package, Gas milage, price.
Cons: Seats are not as comfortable as the S-10's, 3.5L exhaust is a little raspy
I purchased the 04 colorado sport reg cab. It has the I5 3.5L engine and the 17x8 wheels. I only have 300 miles on it so far. So far so good. In my opinion, this is a far better vehicle than the all of the five S-10's that I have owned. It feels like the 3.5L engine is WAY stronger than the 4.3L. Other than a few personal issues with the engineering of the truck, I recommend this truck to everyone and I love it! So far....

Gotta Love Chevrolet
by solomons_song ,Apr 09 '04
Pros: Power. Steering wheel. Lights. XM Radio. Comfortable without feeling to much like a car.
Cons: No passenger keyhole? What happened to chivalry?
Great Truck so far. I cannot understand why Motor Trend didn't have more good things to say about this truck. I also do not understand why it was benchmarked by them (MT) along side full-size trucks. Of course it's gonna lack along side full size trucks. I believe they are becoming a little biased to Ford, but that's just my opinion.
Truck has good, smooth power delivery and a comfortable ride, even with the stiff, four-wheel-drive suspension. I'm tall (6' 3"), so the seat sits a little too high for me. VERY ROOMY, even for me, especially in the passenger seat. There has been a mild, clicking noise develop in the engine that almost sounds like a lifter.
Mucho inquiries from friends about this truck. More mucho inquiries from mechanics about the new I-5 engine.
Awesome truck and it didn't break the bank to purchase one. For those who like the "big" feeling of a full-size without the "big" gas expense, look at this one.
Thanks Chevrolet.

Great Truck
by onedeep ,Aug 18 '04
Pros: Looks, size, I-5 engine, interior comfort in front and back.
Cons: Stereo a bit tinny, 4x2 a bit pricy, some control placement a bit awkward.
Its a great truck. I priced and tried the Nissan Frontier, Toyota Tacoma, and Dodge Dakota, all with similar features as what I ended up with. While the Chevy did turn out to be slightly more expensive than the others, the room inside, the ride, the power, the gas milage, and most especially the looks sold me. Stereo speakers could use some improvement, and some of the controls are in an awkward place. I would have liked some wheel mounted controls for cruise and stereo, but it certainly wasn't a deal breaker.

And by the way, the Z71 package in Sunburst Orange is by far the best looking setup of this truck. Everyone I talked to, before they saw the truck, said "Orange?!?" Then they saw it in person, and they changed their tune to appreciation. Definitely a head turner, but in a good way.

To sum it up, if you are looking for a larger midsize that won't break the bank while giving you all the power, comfort, and more that you could ever want, check out the Chevy Colorado.
