No problems here
by rado888 ,Nov 21 '03
Pros: Works as promised. Freshly ground and brewed. Cons: Not ten standardized cups, more like eight. Upside-down pouring... not too elegant.
I got this coffee maker last week at BBB and have had absolutely no problems with it whatsoever. It has worked as promised. Everything from grinding to brewing. No prob. I usually brew espresso but my Miele machine has been out of service(as usual). I got this machine to use while the other machine was being serviced. No leaks and the coffee is strong enough. The carafe thing is weird, though, as one has to hold it upside down just to get the last few cups out of it. Also, when they say "10 cups", they a liar. The fine print says "Ten 5 oz. cups." Why didn't they just say it makes twenty 2.5 oz. cups? Or better yet, it makes one hundred half ounce cups. The carafe does a good job of keeping the coffee warm and I like the idea of not having a charring plate under the carafe. People say its loud, but I like the sound of the grind. Sounds like victory. I don't mind cleaning it. In fact, it is easier to clean than any other coffee machine I have owned. People, you have to clean your light appliances.

Expensive does not mean the best
by captainzem ,Jun 12 '07
Pros: Looks Impressive
Cons: Luke-warm coffee
Coffee Grinder
Product Support
I received the Coffee Maker as a Wedding present. It turned out to be worst wedding present received.
The temperature of the coffee maker was at 185. Optimal temp for getting the best taste from a coffee bean is around 200-205. Cuisinart suggests you use hot water.
The coffee ended up on the floor more times than in the coffee pot. I had to remove the safety feature to allow the coffee to easily pour into the coffee pot. If you dont, get your sponge ready.
The coffee grinder works well for the first 2 months. After that, good luck. This machine had problems of putting all the grinds into the filter.(Water-downed coffee)

What are the detractors talking about? This is a great appliance.
by gnicholson007 ,Dec 27 '03
Pros: Brews great coffee very easily and is beautifully designed. Cons: Takes a little time to clean if you let the spent grounds sit overnight.
I received the DGB-600 as a Christmas gift from family members who own one. They love theirs and know how much I enjoy freshly ground and brewed coffee.
First - it makes great coffee and is easy to care for. As noted in other reviews, it is prudent to read the directions for proper use.
The appliance grinds, brews then stores the coffee in high quality stainless steel insulated carafe. I much prefer an insulated container rather than a 'hot' plate warmer found with most makers. The coffee almost always ends up burned after a short while. If you 'charge' the container with hot water prior to brewing, the coffee stays very hot for a surprisingly long period of time.
No leaks here - just great tasting coffee.

Buy Better Beans!
by buzzandal ,Dec 28 '03
Pros: Very cool looking - makes a good cup of coffee. Cons: Grinder is noisy - I may stay compliant with cleaning all parts after every use.
I had this machine on my Christmas list - I read some of the negative epinions - I almost sent a "return to sender" request to Santa. AM I GLAD I DIDN'T. I completely agree with another epinion - if you don't read the directions and warnings, you will have problems. I consider myself a coffee snob that loves strong coffee. I didn't like the first pot - used more beans the second - and enjoyed every last drop. I also use more expensive beans (usually Starbucks French Roast.) If you are going to spend $150 on a coffee pot, go ahead and spoil yourself on the beans. It is the beans that make the coffee. The only problem I really have with the machine, is there is no way to see how much is left in the pot after brewing. I can always open the lid. Don't be scared off by those negative epinions.

Great product, but there some tricks
by cooter1 ,May 30 '04
Pros: Great tasting coffee
Timer Cons: Briefly loud noise from grinder
We purchased this model from Williams-Sonoma and like it a lot. However, there are some tricks to brewing tasty coffee in this model:
* add an extra scoop of beans relative to the water level (more if you want some real zip),
* warm the carafe with hot water while loading the beans (empty the carafe, of course, before brewing).
Cleaning the model requires some dexterity to remove the coffee "tar" that accumulates in the grinder pocket, but the rest of the pieces (excluding the carafe) wash easily in the dishwasher. Wash the carafe by hand.
Yes, the grinder is briefly loud when started, as are all grinders. Be sure to remove pets from the kitchen before starting the grinder.
The only issue we have, and this started after 6 months of use, is that the brew cycle stops before using all the water in the reservoir. This requires us now to press the On button multiple times to completely brew. I have e-mailed Cuisinart about this and am awaiting a response. More news later.

Do Not Waste Your Money
by massenricht ,Apr 14 '07
Pros: Looks nice on the counter Cons: The person who designed it was on drugs
To begin with, the grinder sounds like a small aircraft during take-off. It is so loud at 5am in my condominium that I give it a full body wrap to muffle the noise.
The filter basket door will occasionally pop open during brewing or any other time that it wants to. Then when you clean up the mess this creates you have seven separate pieces to wash and that's not counting your floor and counter top.
It looks good, I bought it because of the brand name and can't even say it makes a good cup of coffee. And one more thing, the carafe always leaks when you pour a cup and it pours v-e-r-y slowly.

$150 mess on my countertop.
by penny565 ,Jan 05 '07
Pros: The timer was easy to use. Cons: Leaks water, coffee grinder extremely hard to clean.
I recently purchased a Cuisinart DGB-600 10-Cup Coffee Maker. I paid $150 for what I thought was a high end product. What I got was the worst engineered appliance I have ever purchased. With each brew about 1/2" cup of water leaks out of the top, bottom and all 4 sides. I can't use the grind feature because steam from the brewing process causes the grinder mechanism to become completely clogged. The filter basket has numerous mechanical parts that can't be removed for cleaning. I don't understand how a product with so many flaws could make it to the market. I'm also puzzled how they still continue to sell a product that they know is defective. I would have returned this product to the store but I can't find the receipt.

Cuisinart
by tntscott ,Jan 31 '07
Pros: The look. Cons: Luke warm coffee, bad carafe design, terrible to clean and it must be cleaned daily
Two years ago I bought this grind & brew combo and it is certainly not a good product at any price, and anything near the $149 I paid is terrible.
I bought the name, the look, and the concept.
The only plus is that it appeared to be of solid construction. However, only 18 months later it is garbage.
Lukewarm coffee. Only one grind setting. Poor carafe design. The grinder is absolutely the PITS to clean and it must be done daily. Sometimes malfunctions and spews grounds or the coffee all over the kitchen, either is a terrible mess. No way I'd recommend this thing to anyone. Another friend had the same experience and hates theirs also.
Two final thoughts. My Cuisinart crock pot is nearly as bad so forget the supposed Cuisinart quality.and after 8 months my Capresso grind and brew (which I thought was far superior) is now having problems. Buy a good capresso coffee make and forget the grind and brew idea. Nobody I can find has made it work yet.

Dont waste your money on this one
by vpallari ,Nov 08 '06
Pros: It DOES brew coffee when its working Cons: everything else
Im on my 3rd machine and it just took a dump. I think the heating element went out on this one. The 2 before was the grinder...just stopped working. This thing is kind of a joke. I mean, if you dont clean out the grinder everytime, it starts really caking up which causes you to get less and less gounds into the filter. Doesnt really save you much time. This thing is also a pain in the butt to clean...i have a white one, so when you open the lid to coffee and water in, its just plain disgusting. I dont know what else to say about this, i mean, it is just a coffee pot, but as far as pots go, this one stinks. I might just go back to 20 dollar pots and a good hand grinder.

Great coffee is worth the clean up
by christurtle ,Mar 16 '05
Pros: Excellent flavor, Stays hot for hours Cons: Cleaning, Overflow
My sister bought this grinder/brewer first, which she loved. I was reluctant because I HATE cleaning out coffee grounds.. even just dumping a used paper filter is major effort. So I waited and read reviews and paced around it in the stores, until I finally caved.
Granted, it is a pain to clean every evening, but the taste of the coffee is just perfection to me, and well worth it. I rarely get to drink a cup as soon as it brews, but with this machine it doesn't matter. Keeps coffee hot for hours and every cup is delicious. Plus, I love that you can make a strong pot without the bitterness.
The downside.. Cleaning - there's like a million parts to wash and reassemble. Overflow - the water reserve isn't marked well to keep you from overfilling, which results in a big'o mess. hmmmm. that's about it. Even with the cons, it's a winner in our house.

Design flaw. Whole concept is a mistake.
by largehamster ,Dec 05 '06
Pros: Fresh ground coffee mixed automatically with moldy coffee grounds. Cons: Requires constant cleaning and lots more labor than if the grinder were separate.
The grinder is located inside the unit along with the water. Coffee is blown directly into the filter after it is ground. Sounds neat but every time you make coffee, the grinder and all the remaining coffee grinds are thoroughly steamed. These steamed grinds then stick to the grinder and the screen that separates it from the coffee filter. Not just a sticky mess but very quickly a moldy, sticky mess if left for a couple days. As a result of this design flaw, this coffee maker requires considerably more labor than if the grinder were separate. You must take apart and clean the grinder every couple of days unless you are comfortable using moldy coffee grounds. Even if you are, the whole thing is a gummy unusable mess after about five uses regardless. One word: "Don't"

Don't waste your money.
by twisttoopen ,Nov 20 '04
Pros: Small footprint on the counter, looks nice. Cons: Leaky, not flexible, warm coffee.
Very disappointed in this unit. It looks great, but the coffee is average at best, the carafe leaks constantly, and unless you pre-fill the carafe with very hot water, the coffee never quite gets hot enough. Also, no grind settings, so if you like your coffee a little strong like I do, you are out of luck. Spend the extra $50 and get the Capresso.

High Maintenance/Low Results
by dadam ,Dec 18 '03
Pros: Looks high style. Cons: No fresher than pre-ground. High, high maintenance!
Thought this would be the perfect coffee maker with wake-up convenience to coffee-house results. Didn't taste any better than pre-ground coffee, required too many beans, brewing steam floods grinder compartment and all parts requiring daily soapy scrub and way too much work. Blade grinder is so-so. Beautiful compact design but was a big disappointment. Returned it to store after 30-day daily trial. Too bad.
