Pros: Relatively low price Cons: Very poor reliability
This unit was purchased new from my local Home Depot and installed in Summer 2003 on a single-bay 8-ft. tall steel sectional door. Adjacent to it I have an identical door except it is two-bay. The adjacent two-bay door has an Alister traditional ...

I've had better garage door openers.
by leskataus ,Mar 28 '07
Pros: Interesting design. Cons: Noisy, stops and reverses for no apparent reason.
This particular brand came with the house when we bought it. It has continually reversed for no apparent reason and makes a lot of noise. Unfortunately, I live in a smaller town so the number of businesses that service Genie garage door openers is nonexistent. Maybe this design is an innovation over the old chain-type garage door openers but at least those never caused me problems like this one does.

Genie reliability ridiculous
by ggood1 ,Feb 01 '09
Pros: Nice cardboard box it came in. Cons: Designed to fail. Replacement parts clearly their "profit center."
Run Away!
Replaced my 23 year old chain drive with a Genie Screwdrive from Home Depot.
Multiple breakdowns, needed new sensor, 2 new control boards.
From display at Home Depot, it is obvious they sell you a piece of crap cheap, and then make their money on the replacement parts you'll need every year.
Massive ripoff - collusion/conspiracy between Home Depot and Genie.

Cheap Plastic
by shari22 ,Jul 26 '09
Pros: Worked ok but when it failed on it's own, sounds like a poor design. Cons: Poor product design if the main gear unit breaks it's own mounting blocks.
I bought this unit GCG350L as others have from Home Depot as I trusted their products. The unit worked for 2 years and under normal use, the gear assembly broke the 3 small screws holding the gear to the drive. Since it sheared the ridiculously small screw mounts ,it is unrepairable. I have a Sears unit for 14 years before it failed. I was able to find the gear when that unit stopped working. That one goes back up and this one sadly goes into the landfill. What a waste due to a poor design. (Maybe i can take all the plastic off and recycle that since it is mainly plastic, and the metal)

genie garage door opener 3060L
by stark2966 ,May 21 '07
Pros: Nice design Cons: Poor quality, poor customer service
Garage door opener stop working properly after about 1-2 months (after pressing the button, the door goes down and comes back up over and over). One of the remotes also stopped working. Went through trouble shooting and also called technician to review....problem diagnosed..notified Genie, got parts & technician to replace...soon as technician left problem started again. Genie gives me a number to call as they want to troubleshoot again...will not replace or send technician. I have explained to the customer service folks that this has been going on for 5+ months, I would like a professional to come and take a look or just send a replacement. Seems like it would be worth it to them to take care of a customer and close the case on this..but it is not. Please don't buy this or any of the Genie Garage door openers.

No, no, no.
by y2kgator ,Aug 02 '09
Pros: I wish I knew one. Cons: Unreliable. Home Depot needs to vet installers, Genie needs to make a reliable product.
Since Home Depot installed my Genie Chain Glide, the overhead wires have broken on a monthly basis (I've become quite expert in reconnecting them), I had to replace the motor and after replacing the motor and the warranty expired by 30 days, it stopped working again. What a piece of junk. The installer did a lousy job getting the wiring intact within the metal rods. What a mess. Home Depot needs to vet its installers,or at least warrantytheir installers work. Genie needs to make a reliable, credible product.

Instructions long but imprecise; incomplete mounting hardware
by martin9p2 ,Aug 04 '08
Pros: Cleverly engineered. Cons: Installation instructions suck, and Customer Service is a joke.
The installation instructions are long with a lot of pictures, but at the same time they assume you've done it before -- crummy step-by-step instructions.
Email customer service is a joke -- it takes 2 or 3 days for a reply, so what's the use? Telephone support is out of the question.
The package does not mention that mounting hardware is not included. It says something like "Step 12 - Mount the motor to the ceiling". So, even though this is supposedly a fool-proof kit with parts and instructions, it still took two extra trips to hardware store.
I suppose the product is quality engineered in USA and Mfg'ed in China, but the DIY experience is POOR. I am an experienced handyman.

Would not buy again, very poor reliability
by livinginme ,Apr 25 '06
Pros: Unit raises the door quickly Cons: Loud, unreliable, poor customer service, poor range
We have owned 2 of these units for 3 years and have had 4 repairs on them. The board has been defective twice and the sending units have broken once and 1 was defective out of the box.
Each time you have "warrantee" claims, they charge you for shipping on the part. Would not recommend this unit.
Most recent failure resulted in unit closing the garage door nearly 3x faster than it should have which poses a large safety concern.
The quality of these units is extremely poor. one of the remotes is broken as well however we have 4 and only need 2 so it isn't a deal breaker.

Genie Chainlift 2020
by apvm ,Sep 19 '06
Pros: Easy to install especially the chain is hidden inside the rail. Cons: Some parts use plastic which made them feel cheap but they serve the purpose nonetheless.
Not sure if this is the same thing, bought two at Canadian Tire in Canada to install at my new home with 2 door garages.
I am a newbie and not really a handy man, The instruction is clear and installation for the 1st one took me about 6 hours, had a little more experience after that and the second one took me 4 hours.
It works as it should for about two weeks and setting up the remote with one of my car which has homelink is easy.
Noise level is not any louder than my old Home hardware garage door opener (which I think were made by the same company who made Sears Craftman)in my old home which by the way lasted 13 years without a problem.
Overall I see them as average chain driven garage door opener and the price at the time was the cheapest since they were on sale but to be honest I wouldn't pay their regular price.
