Double-clutching and Heel-and-toe
by DrMobots | Dec 15 '00
It's good for driving trucks, but also good for saving the synchromesh in a transmission.

Toe and heel??? (Reply to this comment)
by topher34
Great explanation, but I've always heard it called heel and toe. I race with the SCCA and used to practice heel and toe on the street, but found that in autocrossing, thing just happen way too fast too use it effectively. I would usually overblip, causing a surge in speed on the downshift, when I was really needing to slow down in a big hurry! Today I actually double clutch on the UPSHIFT to 3rd because the syncros are starting to go, and I get a nasty grunt if I don't. Again, great explanation!
