Pros: Styling, performance, improved steering, ride, front seat comfort, off-road capability Cons: Interior materials, rear seat comfort, no third row, possible reliability issues
Update: Chrysler has unveiled the totally redesigned 2005 Grand Cherokee, and it is a major improvement in many areas. The interior's styling is much more upscale and materials appear to have been vastly upgraded. An independent front suspension ...
Pros: 4.7L V8 engine, navigation, comfortable front seats Cons: Brake system, body roll, low idle and stalling, road and wind noise
I purchased my 2004 Jeep Grand Cherokee Columbia Edition on December 31st, 2004. Needless to say I got a great deal because of the end of the year. I purchased the vehicle as what the dealership calls "brand new" with 43 miles on it. From the day I ...
Pros: Good road manners, comfortable on Everest or the Interstate, good blend of all worlds Cons: Reliability issues, smallish back seat / cargo area, interior materials could be better
Having long outgrown the need for one, dear old Mom never the less refused to give up her beloved minivan. We finally convinced her to trade it in, provided we got her something that was still nice and high. Enter the Grand Cherokee. We purchased a 2004 ...
Pros: Zippy, pretty smooth ride, plenty of passenger and cargo room, lots of standard features. Cons: Burns lots of gas in the city; suspension can be truck-like at times.
I went in to my purchase of a new 2004 Jeep Grand Cherokee Laredo (2WD) looking for a 2003, and the dealer just happened to have this one on the lot and wanted to move it quickly. Though I've never driven a Jeep before, I'm happy I bought what I did. ...
Pros: Outstanding vehicle with great service and few needs for replacement parts or servicing required. Cons: Need a place for my garage door opener.
This year I decided after having driven 5 Jeeps for over 15 years, it was time for a change. I bought a small Volvo wagon and drove it for 9 weeks. At the end of the 9th week, I drove that Volvo into a dealership and drove out with my 6th Jeep Grand ...
Since I am 6'7" tall, I don't really get to go car shopping. I get to "try on" cars! My previous car was a Ford Escape - believe it or not, I fit quite well. It was time for my wife to get an updated car, and she liked my Ford Escape so I gave that to ...
Pros: Fit and finish. 4.7 V8 is smooth and powerful. Comfortable and luxurious. Cons: Some wind noise on occasion while cruising at highway speeds, but very rare.
The 2004 Jeep Grand Cherokee is an excellent SUV in many aspects. Although it maybe showing its age here and there, it's still a very capable player in today's SUV market. And with a new 2005 model on the way, the 2004's are loaded with factory rebates ...
Pros: Off road capability, looks, power Cons: maintinence costs
We bought our jeep in 2003 for the 2004 model year and so far have put about 25k on it. Our model has the 4.7 ltr V-8, so this review will entail the details about that engine and the Limited model. Handling- This jeep does very well, it handles ...
Pros: Ride, easy handling, 4WHEEL DRIVE, sound system, quiet ride,SEAT COMFORT GREAT, WIPER/LIGHTS/HEATER/A.C. CONTROLS EASY! Cons: Gas mileage is terrible but average for a SUV!
We leased 3 Jeep Cherokees (NOT Grand) and they were MY HUSBAND'S car! I thought they rode like a buckboard and the sound system was NOT good. BUT we both didn't like the LIBERTY and the dealer showed that we could lease this 2004 Grand Cherokee for ab ...
Pros: Smooth ride, Good looks, Good gas mileage, great stereo. Cons: Location of door/window controls, not easy to lay back seat flat..too much work.
I bought my new 04 Special Edition Jeep Grand Cherokee only about 2 weeks ago and have only 1000 miles on it. So far, everything is great and I look forward to driving it every day. The Special Edition offers a nicer trim package with color side moldings ...
Pros: Powerful Motor, nimble handling, nice interior both looks and comfort. Cons: towing is limited to 6500 or less, himi not available
This car as been great to me! I have an 04 Special Edition which came with features I wasnt even looking for when I started shopping but have become my new basis for comparison. 10 disk changer, steering wheel stereo controls and sunroof are just ...
Pros: Comfort, size, handling, build quality seems good Cons: A bit more power out of the V6 with better gas mileage
We considered many different SUV's before deciding on the Grand Cherokee. Down to the wire... it was a race between the Ford Explorer, Chevrolet Trail Blazer and the Grand Cherokee and the Cherokee won by a mile. It didn't hurt that we managed to ...
Pros: Safety, love the extras that the special edition has (leather, 10 disc CD changer) Cons: None so far!
Two weeks after purchasing a 2004 Jeep Grand Cherokee Special Edition, my husband and I were rear ended by an out of control drive. He actually started to spin out and the entire passenger side of his car hit the back of our Jeep. The force of the ...
Pros: Looks good, roomy Cons: POORLY BUILT, very unreliable, busy ride, bad on gas to boot
we bought this vehicle thinking that the Jeep Grand Cherokee limited would be our dream. Well its been our nightmare since picking it up in November from Warnock in East Hanover, NJ. We bought an 8 Cylinder Grand Cherokee Limited with all the bells and whistles. This vehicle has been in for transmission problems 3 times, brakes twice already (they had to replace the rotors), replacement of shocks, and front end problems. I cant emphasize enough how much trouble we have had. We now are looking to trade this truck in for something that wont be a headache. My wife and I cant believe how poorly built this truck is. Service fixes one problem and then another arises. Do yourself a favor and pass on this piece of garbage.
Always wanted a Jeep Cherokee, what a disappointment by ronbo44 ,Sep 29 '05
Pros: Looks good, so far have had zero mechanical problems after 21 months. Cons: Terrible gas mileage, lacks adequate leg room for taller drivers, very cramped back seat.
In January 2004 I purchased a new 2004 Jeep Grand Cherokee Overland, which comes factory loaded with all the bells & whistles. Since then I have experienced an average of 10-11 MPG, which the dealer has been unable to correct, or explain. I have spent much of my life on the road, and this is the worst MPG I have ever experienced in any of the many vehicles I have owned over the past 50 years. Also, at 6' 1", I find the leg room a bit cramped when driving more than just a few miles. The interior looks ok, but seems to lack a real feeling of quality in construction and materials. Road and wind noise is also very noticeable at highway speeds, and distracts for the quite ride one would expect from a vehicle in this price range. I have always wanted a Jeep Cherokee, but this has proven to be a big disappointment.
If you're thinking about it - BUY IT! by mrxsandman ,Jan 13 '04
Pros: Great 4x4 system, Hot looks, well built interior, decent gas mileage for a two-ton SUV. Cons: Dash lay-out somewhat hard to see.
Just picked up my 2004 Laredo a couple weeks ago, and it was worth every penny.
I went with the Quadra-Trac 2 all-time four wheel drive, and it makes off-roading simple. I've taken it through sand I've seen swallow lesser sport-utes, and it barely even kicked up any dust. You keep feeling like you should be doing something to make it dig through that sand... but the system figures it all out for you.
So far I have had no problems with anything.
I was hesitant to get the 6-cylinder, but it has all the power it needs and more.
The only thing I've encountered I would change is the location of some instruments, my height (5'9") makes the steering wheel block out the top of some instruments, including the turn signal indicators.
You know when someone looks THAT hard for something to dislike it's a great car.
If you're on the fence, take the plunge. It's all a Jeep needs to be, and more.
The Safest and Most Reliable by lcauble ,Sep 26 '05
Pros: Excellent handling, Reliable, never dies Cons: Gas is expensive in any car and this one is no exception
I bought my 2004 from a chrysler jeep dodge place in northern california. since then, i have never had any problems with it and it took a serious hit with little to no damage when i was hit from behind this summer, the person's car who hit us had a very messed up hood and engine though. If you are looking for a safe car that looks gorgeous, this would be it. I love this jeep, i have never felt so safe, and the only thing i hate is being without it.
Pros: Stylish, spacious seating for 4, well designed interior Cons: poorly constructed, plastic ground effects get stained, warranty does not cover everything (read fine print)
The problems with Jeep? Where should I start? First, I spent $1800 on a new camshaft and I tried to use the Powertrain Warranty but apparently that is not covered in the warranty, second, brakes! I have had to replace the brakes and rotors twice since I bought it two years ago. I also have a 1998 Chevy Blazer and I have never had a single problem with it. I have replaced brake pads and a windshield wiper motor, total of $500 in the 9 years that I have owned it. I contacted Chrysler to let them know of the problems I have had and a Public Relations Rep e-mailed me back apologizing for the problem. I needed more assurance that I bought a quality product than a apology. My wife and I are trading in the Jeep as soon as we can get it new tires. If you have a Jeep product I suggest you get rid of it and if you are thinking of buying one, DON'T!.
Pros: Dependability,Power and Comfort create a great package. Cons: Mileage,Plenty of Power and it just begs you to use it
I bought this Jeep with 63K on the clock. I have owned it for 6 months with absolutely nothing but good things to say.I have owned CJ's and still own a "offroad only" highly modified (V8,D60's etc) YJ but this is way out of their league. Power and Comfort are great. The fit and finish are very respectable. Overall quality seems very good.
