Online Reading--Why?

For years I had made a stand that I would refuse to read a full book via the internet, or any other kind of device. I had stood on a hill and proclaimed, "That I shall not, refuse and no way in Hell, was I going to read anything that I couldn't hold in my hands."
Boy, was I dumb.
I couldn't believe the wasted opportunity I had to read great works by using my machine right here in my home. In fact, I was one of the idiots who didn't download King's book. The shame...the shame.
Oh, I had taken the opportunity to read Doug Clegg's email e-book, Naimo, but I did that because I considered him a friend. I highly enjoyed the book, and I liked the way each week I received a new chapter in my email...(talk about suspense.)
Then I received an opportunity to review a friend's book off of Bookface. My gosh, why didn't someone tell me about this site long a go? (ok, someone actually did, but I never checked it out)
Then, blasted email I tell you, I received the opportunity to read a couple of e-books using Adobe Reader, for a friend that owns a publishing company. Again, why have I ignored these in the past?
So after learning that there is good reads out there in this new generation of publishing, I am now a devoted e-book reader.
I know that the e-book will never take over the feeling of holding a book in my hand and reading at my leisure where ever I go, but I have learned I can make sure I have ink in my printer and print out the pages just the same to read an e-book. (still have paper in my hand, just bigger size and no covers)
As a writer professionally, I understand also the concept of e-books. In fact, I even went out on a limb and have three books in e-book form. (one available now, two due out soon)
On the writer side, I find that the turn-about for publishing in this form is faster and the royalties are actually better. The readership seems to be at an even higher level then the print book form I have out. My reasoning for that is because the e-book can be had now for a couple of bucks, while the print form is not available at all bookstores yet.
As a reader of e-books, I have come to the conclusion that either in print or using a device, I can still have the pleasure of reading great works of art. Plus, save a couple bucks also.
