Barnes and Noble means customer service

Recently, I went back to school. I am attending a vocational school taking a Computer Information Systems course. The school in question uses a book published by DDC called Learning Microsoft Office 2000 Deluxe Edition. I started the course after it began, and was supposed to be waiting for "my" class to begin about two weeks later. Well, the class never started, and my "step-class" started the section on Access. I xeroxed the pages necessary to keep up with the class while imploring the school to get me the materials necessary to learn. I decided that I'd try to find the book on my own.
After calling several bookstores, Barnes and Noble said that they could get it in about a week. Usually, it takes less time, but in early December, mail starts to increase, and they felt that a couple extra days would cover the season.
The sales staff was very helpful and courteous, those days just before it was due to arrive. I would call once a day to see if it had been received yet, and finally "Hurrah!!!" they said it was in!
Unfortunately, it wasn't in. The shipping list said it was in one of the boxes, but it and about five other books were nowhere to be found.
The saleslady told me that they were trying to run it down, and that one of their options was to get one shipped to me directly from the publisher and it wouldn't cost me a thing.
Well, turns out that the book was no longer in print and that they couldn't get it from the publisher. They went the extra mile, and went searching for it for me. About a week later, they called to tell me that they had located a copy and that it was in. They even let me name my own price on it. A $45.00 book cost me only $15.00 for the hassle of it not arriving when it should have in the first place.
I don't know many places that would do that. I have been buying books from Barnes and Noble for quite a few years now, and after this experience, will continue to do so. They bent over backward to help me get the book I needed for class. The funny thing was, I got my book from the school the very next day.
