| cledge's Full Review: Slade, Michael |
"Burnt Bones" by Michael Slade is truly a bizarre book. Slade takes some ancient stories and weaves his character Mephisto through the ruins and shows his demented mind. While at the same time Slade brings Celtic
beliefs to the present. Centered on an island between Canada and the U.S., Slade recreated Stonehenge to his psycho's mind. I don't agree with his choice of representing Druids as evil, devil worshipping fanatics, but most people confuse the truth about druids and their practices, so I'll forgive Slade for this. All and all "Burnt Bones" is a well written book. Slade's inter-action between small town cops, FBI, and the Canadian Mounted Police, shows how the animosity between such different agencies can actually be put aside to save one of their own. Slade takes horror to a different level, and brings vivid images to the reader's mind as he gives just enough of a description of the terror going on and leaves the rest up to the reader.
