I've had several sets of speakers, none of which I've paid more than $20 for. They all buzzed and were squeaky. I finally went into a shop (Fry's) that had them all lined up with quick comparison buttons. I ignored anything above $50 and these were the ones I came out with. Sound-wise they beat the competition easily. really rich bass without being booming and a good high end too. I play some music through them but mostly listen to the BBC news via realaudio and they work very well for this although I'd have liked a bit more in the middle frequency range for human voice. I also play games with my headphones on (My wife hates the noises) and Half Life running from these speakers is excellent - no hum or buzz in the quiet parts and a good stereo separation.
I'd have liked the headphone socket on the front rather than the side but that's a minor quibble.
These are civilized speakers, neat, clean and not squawky!
