Ebay is maybe the biggest auction company, but it definitely has a lot to learn from Yahoo's auction area.
Yahoo's auction area is not the biggest auction area, but being a smaller auction company also has an advantage. When there are less people using the company, you will have less competition. Not once I "fought" with other bidders in Ebay, in the last couple of seconds of an auction, and lost. This is less likely to happen in Yahoo.
The first and probably most important thing with Yahoo, is that it is free. You can post as many auctions as you want, and it doesn't cost you a thing. If you will post an auction with Ebay it will cost you, for the simplest auction possible, with no extra "bonuses" at all, 25 cents, and this is even if you don't sell your product.
Yahoo auctions is free! Totally free! You don't have to pay a thing, not if you sell your item and not if you don't. This is why I advise you to try and sell your product at Yahoo for free first, and only if you can't sell it over there, then go to Ebay.
Another advantage to Yahoo, is that you can view the profile of a seller's of an auction, and immediately see all the comments about his good and bad auctions.
When you buy something from a seller, it is always good to see what others that has already made business with him have to say about him. It can really affect your purchase.
Ebay also has this option, but there you can only see the last 25 comments. It is easier to use with Yahoo.
Yahoo also has a cool option, when you have a little "clock" in every auction, when you can see exactly how much time is left (countdown), and than you don't have to press the irritating refresh/reload button every 10 seconds to see if the auction is over yet.
Some disadvantages with Yahoo, are that I can find some missing categories and products, that people need. If yahoo really wants to be #1, they have to bring the people into their site, and this is why its important for them to stay free for now.
Yahoo do have some work to do, but I think that being the #1 auctions site is not so far away.
