Ohhhhhhhhhhhh yeah - this little sucker has become our primary appliance, and it does receive heavy use on a daily basis. We purchased it last Spring through compaq.com for roughly $2300 - and it has certainly been worth it. It has a Pentium III processor, 64 megs of ram, 18 gig hard drive, DVD drive, built in 56 k modem (which goes unused...) and a built in Ethernet port. It has one of those touch pads for a mouse, which took a while to get used to, and 14.1 inch screen, which has been very clear. A nice feature it has is that it can play CDs through the headphones, without booting up the computer. Its speakers also produce rather satisfactory sound, especially for a notebook. It has a multi-year warranty, and I cannot comment on the customer service, as it has been unnecessary.
My wife and I spent a lot of time researching the best notebook for our buck - and the Compaq Presario 1800 was certainly the way to go. Other notebooks in the same price range were more like Celeron-driven, small-screened units, within limited hard drive space.
