HomeComputers & InternetPC DesktopsWhat Should I Know About IBM Desktops in General?

Forget about It !!!

Oct 24 '99

I purchased an IBM Aptiva computer about 2 years ago. I purchased an IBM thinking that they would back their machines WRONG!! My system arrived DOA and had to be sent back to get the systemboard replaced. After getting it back the problems didn't stop. Once the system went into suspend mode it would freeze and would have to be rebooted. After many calls to Ireland I just gave up and stopped using this feature. Another problem I realized with the Aptiva's is you can't upgrade because everything is built into the motherboard ie sound, video. Back in May my system started giving me the famous blue screen everytime I tried to use the modem. I thought the modem was bad.....WRONG! The systemboard went bad once again. Now out of warranty I have a $2000 paperweight. I tried replacing the motherboard but found out that everything IBM is proprietory and you can't mix parts. So I finally went out and built my own system. Now I know everything about my pc and can upgrade when I want at a much better price. After this experience I don't think I would ever buy an off the shelf system.
