| chalstea's Full Review: Palm IIIe Personal Organizer |
First, let me say I never WANTED a PDA. I thought they were just another stupid fad in the ever widening list of gadgets that we can buy, like cell phones, fax machines, PC's, and so on and so on. So, when I received one as a gift, I wasn't exactly thrilled. I've had it now for a YEAR, and I have to admit, that after about the 3rd week, I grew to love it. I've looked at other Palms, and frankly, this little one does all I need.
My whole address book is on it, complete with email addresses, phone numbers, birthdays and so on. I downloaded an application that even helps me set up the birthdays. I have a shopper function on it, so I can make lists of groceries (and, if you REALLY wanted to get serious, you could specify WHICH store to buy what item from, and even in which aisle you can find it). I found the "graffiti" very easy to use. Graffiti is the system you use to write in text onto the Palm screen. Most every thing about it was self explanatory.
BUT (?), my office just started using Microsoft Outlook, and my Palm IIIe doesn't connect to it. Well, it DOES! I went online to the Palm website, and chatted live online with an assistant and all I had to do was download the software they use (PocketMirror), and now I'm all connected.
I carry it with me now and use it ALL the time. So far, I haven't needed the extra memory that comes with the more expensive ones, and I haven't needed/wanted to upgrade. In this day and age of ever changing software, its sort of nice not to worry that I have to keep upgrading something.
I'd for sure say BUY THE PALM IIIe as a starter!
