| Chevyman16's Full Review: Ricoh Internal CD-RW drive |
I got the MP-7060 for christmas and I have made somewhere around 60 cd's I think. I mostly only listen to mixes I burn on cd. I have only made a few coasters and its always the computers fault not the cd writer. Our computer freezes on occasion when its running big programs like cd burning software.
Every cd I have made has come out great. I notice a few "pops" mostly only on Sony cd-r's, but on other cd's they are rare. My cd-r's always work on all cd players with one exception. At work in our crew room where I work (mcdonalds) we have an old Sharp minisystem that doesn't look like it should play any cd's at all, and it only plays some brands of cd-r's. Other cd players I have used my cd-r's in always work. I use a Sony ESP2 discman and while some people claim that Sonys are bad with cd-r's I don't know where they get this from cause I've tried cd-r's in lots of Sony discmans including old beat up ones and all of them worked.
The cd writer was pretty easy to install but the documentation was kind of lacking. It was easy to get going compared to a lot of computer stuff, but theres not much of a manual to learn how to use the programs with it. Other than that I'm happy with it.
The included software seems really good. It has a lot of features and its easy to use. I can burn multisession cd's without gaps in between songs. The gaps sometimes screw up some cd players making them have trouble with tracking.
I can write cd-text cd's which I have tried on cd-text capable players. Some of them work and some of them don't. I tried it out on a bunch of car stereos at Future Shop and a lot of them wouldn't display the text. One that did was a Sony Xplod cd player (CDX-C4000X) which I plan to buy for my car sometime soon. It displayed the cd text perfectly. I also tried a Sony D-EJ815 CD walkman that is supposed to have cd-text but it didn't display any text at all. A Sony 5 disc changer (CDP-CE545) that I tried displayed the text perfectly. It seems to be kind of inconsistent but it does work on some players.
I got an extended 3 year warranty at Future Shop in case I have problems. CD burners don't seem to be the most reliable things from what i've read.
Anyways this is all I really have to say about this cd burner. I haven't used other cd burners to compare speed but its rated at 6x4x24 which is not bad but faster ones are being made all the time.
