| msurman's Full Review: Toshiba Portege 7020 |
I've owned four Toshiba laptops and this is the best one yet. Light, super usable, great screen and good performance for a PII.
People who should buy this (or later Portege 7000 series models) want the light weight of a sub-notebook but not the compromises. The Portege 7000's have a full size keyboard and a big-ish screen (13.4'). These features make the machine much more usable than the smaller Portege 3000 series or the Sony Viao Z series ... and with only about an extra pound of weight.
One drawback is price. The computers cost well over $US3000 retail. Luckily, they aren't hard to find as refurbs or at auction ... this is how I bought both of my Portege 7020's.
The other drawback is connections to the outside world. Only VGA and USB ports come directly on the machine. Serial, parallel and PS2 come on an awkward dongle. This wouldn't be so bad is Toshiba would put the VGA on the dongle, too. Then you'd have a psuedo docking station. Unfortunately, that's not the case.
Get the DVD docking station if you can. This solves the connectivity problems and gives you a DVD player. Unfortunately, the docking station is way over priced.
