ARM customer service review
Mar 26 '00
I'm going to do here what I wish someone had done for me before I bought my notebook from ARM Computers- tell it like it is.
First, let me say that I got a great deal on the hardware. When I told him about another computer I was looking at, the salesman offered to upgrade my HD to 10 Gigs at no extra charge. He also offered Corel Office 2000, rather than Corel WP 8, to be competitive with the other company's offer of MS Office 2000. And that's where the deal started to go bad.... It's now seven months later, and I never received the promised software. Instead I have an outdated word processing program and a new promise- for $40 they'll send me WP 2000, but not Office.
Unfortunately, the trouble with ARM doesn't end there, either. On their website the advertise 24 hour, toll-free tech support. They do not, however, list a toll-free number, just one with a (408) area code. I pressed the salesman to give me a toll-free number, and eventually he did. Each time I've called it, though, I've been greeted by someone who asks to take my phone number so that they can call me back at their convenience. Since they have never returned my calls, I suppose, technically, I'm still waiting for their convenience to arrive...
My advice- stay away from ARM. The hardware is decent, and they have a really nice upgrade policy for it (assuming they honor it), but the post-sale service is reprehensible. Pay the extra money and go with a more reputable dealer. I wish I had.
