Having recently purchased a different PC camera, I quickly learned that the AVI files created are HUGE. Obviously file compression is needed and you've got two mainstream choices - Windows or Real. (A third compresion option is Apple's QuickTime format.)
I've found that RealProducer 8 (free download) does a far better job of compressing AVI files than does Microsoft's Windows Media Encoder. The Real files are smaller yet play back with better video and audio. I consider this utility a must-have for publishing digital video. Compression is about 90% and, with the right settings, most of the quality is preserved.
Oddly, Kodak's DVC325 is not compatible with RealProducer 8. The included Readme file says that this camera outputs a proprietary color format which is not currently supported by the RealProducer. That fact alone would make me think twice about buying this camera.
