I'm a survivor of AOL who after being fed up with that service has FINALLY found a permanent home with AT & T Worldnet. I say that because after 6 months of AOL I was ready to tear my hair out. I work from home and access the net for long hours every day, and AOL was constantly "bumping" me off after only an hour or two logged on. Or worse their access lines were regulary BUSY! That was totally unacceptable and basically AOL didn't seem too committed to their "unlimited" service plan.
So it was much to my delighted surprise, when I switched to AT & T, I have found their "unlimited" plan is truly just that. I can be logged on for a continuous 12+ hours without a single bump AND in 3 months I've only had one busy signal! NOW THAT is delivering the kind of "reliable" ISP service I require.
Another benefit is AT & T's option to have your ISP charges added to your long distance bill instead of charging checking account or credit card. This way I pay just one bill each month for ALL my AT & T services. By combining my ISP and long distance on one bill, I've also had my fee of $4.95/month for $.07 a minute waived for SIX months! Another great savings.
One drawback is AT & T's email service which isn't anywhere as easy or comprehensive as AOL. However, I resolved that weakness to my satisfaction by following their directions to utilize Netscape's Messenger email. I highly recommend that combination if you're looking for a rock-solid, reliable ISP and good email system.
AT & T Worldnet's customer service lives up to its long distance fame. Excellent and speedy answers!
For those looking for an ISP that has low memory and system resource requirements, AT & T is a safe bet.
I highly recommend this ISP. It's not free but if, like me, you absolutely need reliable and consistent connection to the net, then AT & T is a smart choice.
