| Guildencrantz's Full Review: Philips PC Internal CDRW 400 Series |
Philips has always seemed like a good audio/visual company so when I saw this CD-RW for such a great price I jumped to buy it. BIG MISTAKE. This drive was utter trash, and the software was down right pathetic.
I installed this drive about five times. I slaved it, I set it to master, I put it on its own slot and set the 3.5" floppy as slave to the hard drive. Nothing I did could get this machine to work over mediocre.
I was able to use the packet software to put a few small files on a CD-R, and I formatted a few disks, nothing else. Trying to burn a music CD was like pulling hairs. I could burn a song or two at a time, max, and even then I could never get it to complete the directory for a CD. I RUINED 5 CD-R's AND DIDN'T GET A SINGLE MUSIC CD THAT WORKED.
This doesn't even take into account how slow and buggy the software was. The company that put out that junk didn't even have it on the website. There was NO support for the software, but I will say that the Philips hardware support was very good. They helped me out, even though we never got it to work.
I was greatly disappointed with Philips and was fortunate that I could return this piece of junk. For a much better drive, although slightly more expensive, try Hewlett Packard's 8100 series. (I haven't ruined a single CD!)
