| Gr8ful's Full Review: Hi-Val 50X IDE CD-ROM Kit |
Hi-Val makes quality computer peripherals affordable and reliable. Many people think that in order to get a quality CDROM drive you have to buy a name like Sony, Toshiba or Hewlett Packard. The Hi-Val 50X CDROM is an excellent CD reader and supports Multi-Read functions.
This CDROM is capable of reading CD, CDR, and CDRW disks. It is also capable of digital audio extraction. So if you are looking for a good fast CDROM to rip from CD audio to MP3, this is an excellent choice for the money. This drive is also a great choice for copying CD's, if you need a good reader for backing up your original CD's.
The fact that it is 50X is not as big a deal as some would think, although it does speed up software installation time. Any CDROM running at 8X or faster will run programs at the same speed. If you are playing a game that requires a CD, the game will not play faster or smoother with a 50X than it does with an 8X, the only benefit of the speed is when you are extracting the digital audio, installing software or copying a CD to CDR/CDRW and you have a fast CD writer.
Installation of this drive is a breeze, you just set the jumper, screw the drive into an empty drive bay and plug in the IDE and power cables. Most new computers will automatically detect the drive in the BIOS and Windows will detect it on the boot and load it's own drivers for it so you will not have to install any software to use the drive.
I have had mine for about two years and moved it between six different computers. Each time I installed it, it loaded with no problems and has run flawlessly since I bought it. I always move it to my newest computer because I like to have the speed for ripping CD's and for installing large applications and programs.
I recommend the Hi-Val 50X CDROM to anyone looking for a good CD reader that doesn't cost an arm and a leg.
