I bought a Smart and Friendly CD Speedwriter RW (Internal 4x 4x 24x CD-Recorder SAF756) last month and have had no real problems with it. The Adaptec Easy CD Creator software that is package with it allows you to copy music CD’s simply by dragging and dropping files (or tracks in this case). The tracks can be arranged in any order, and they can be taken from different CD's. The quality of the music CD’s is excellent. I can’t tell the difference between the copy and the original. The software also uses the drag and drop feature for data files. It takes about 45 minutes to test and burn a CD.
It took me about 2 hours to install the Speedwriter, but as my experience here is limited to replacing a failed hard drive and adding memory and as I was unfamiliar with how to open a bay for the CD-RW to go in, I can’t complain about the few problems I had.
The other software that comes with the Speedwriter claims that it can be used to create and edit music which then can be stored on CD's. This is true with only one problem. The tracks can't be saved in a format that a home CD player recognizes. I can play them through my computer's software, but that's all. Again for making copies of music CD's playable on any CD player the software is fine.
The price can’t be beat: $179.99 at Best Buy, and I have seen similar prices for it on the web. I would recommend this product to anyone who wants a data storage device and a way to copy music CD’s with excellent audio quality but doesn’t have a lot of money to spend.
