When I just started toying with MP3 files, I noticed that everybody around
me used Winamp. However, being stubborn, I decided to stay away from
mainstream and downloaded several other players (NAD is one that comes to
mind). After suffering from high CPU loads and limited feature set, I've
discovered what others knew all along - Winamp is better!
I've been using Winamp for quite some time now and I am very pleased with
it. CPU usage is surprisingly low for the amount of work it is doing.
The interface is friendly and some of the available plug-ins (such as
G-Force) are out of this world.
Winamp bugged me a little when they changed user interface - took me some time
to get used to it. In fact, for a while I insisted on sticking with old
version - but then the promise of new features lured me to upgrade.
Winamp is impeccable when playing MP3 files, but I've experienced that it
gets unstable when I added other filetypes to the playlist - such as MIDI
and MOD.
