Problem with PCI modems, HELLLP! Give Me a HAMMER!
Jan 02 '00
OK, Here we go!
I feel whoever invented PCI modems wanted to make a lot of money, because they all tend to FIZZLE out. Oh YEAH, they seem to me to last maybe six months or a year at best, work great, and then "OH PETUNIA!" Give Me A HAMMER. They do not WORK for ME!
So what am I using? Let me tell you, a U.S. Rebotics Sportster 33.6 in a ISA slot. So far those cheap modems, especially PCI modems around $10 to $100 dollars just don't seem to cut the mustard. This ISA modem was not used by choice at first, I needed a modem of some kind to work, with my computer. I happened upon it.
This Sportster is pretty darn good. I don't have any complaints.
I have helped friends buy new computers and set them up. Low and behold the new computer comes with a PCI modem! So I see this trend to make money. Quantity sells apparently, not quality. Life is cheap!
