Datebook3 is a great program..dont get me wrong. However, it lacks the power and features of Action Names 4.06. For the same price you get so much more with Action Names. In my review, I 'll tell you why Datebook 3 is great, and then at the end, I'll have a comparison segment.
If you are in the market for a Datebook, datebook3 is fantastic. We all agree that Palm's default Datebook leaves a lot to be desired. Datebook 3 does a beautiful job filling in the gaps. It adds a weekly view, biweekly view (with text), icons, and a yearly view and text view. In addition, it integrates the todos into datebook3. (I now that Palm has addressed this with the OS 3.5) It is nice to see on the calender your ToDos.
The weekly view is a welcome feature. The bars that Palm had were plain stupid. Datebook3 shows the full text of appointments in Weekly view. You can also click a button to show 2 weeks with text as opposed to one (However it must be said that only a very limited amoubt of text can be shown in the 2 week view).
Monthly view is mostly the same, however you can view icons instead of those dots.
The yearly view is pointless. It shows the entire calender year. If you click on a day you see what is on that day...but to switch to that day you have to press the daily view button. This is a little bit annoying to do...
The text list is also pretty nice. It lists all the events of datebook in a list with icons. Good for scanning datebook to find something on the fly.
Weaknesses- The yearly view is not a great strength. Also, this product lacks a quarterly view. (Planned for datebook 4) Quarterly view is more useful than a yearly view and is a part of Action Names.
Strengths- The icons are unmatched. There are 52 icnos which are customizable. You can download new ones off the web or make your own. Also the weekly view is great. For these 2 reasons alone, this product is great. In addition, Datebook3 has become the standard of sorts in the industry. For example, MobiMate's DateMate automatically can enter items into Datebook3 with a chosen icon...
Comparison- Well I do love Datebook3. However, for the same price, in Action Names you get an awesome address book. Action Names is easier to use and has some unique views that Datebook3 lacks. It does have text view of the weeks. There are icons in Action Names that are not as good as Datebook3. However, all in all, Action Names provides more power for the same price. Follow this address to check out my Action Names for my review on this great product...

Final Note- Datebook3 is great. I love it and would buy it if I only needed a Datebook. For the price, Action Names provides more. It must be said that Datebook4 is supposed to come out shortly and will probably knock the socks off myself and all other reviewers. Perhaps you may be better off waiting for that release before buying this one. Check out Pimlico's webpage for more info on Datebook4.
