| Krosnoff's Full Review: IBM PC Camera Webcam |
I actually bought two webcams the day I picked up the IBM PC Camera Pro. The store had a good return policy so the IBM and a Philips Vesta Pro went home with me. After some testing it looks like the IBM is going back to the store!
The fact that the IBM cam is made by Xirlink should of tipped me off. The packaging was nice and the install software was very easy to use (thanks to IBM). One note - make sure you install the software before you plug in the webcam (trust me). Once the webcam was up and running the disappointment set in. The images were terrible in my opinion.
I've used lots of webcams and maybe that makes me more critical of image quality. That's not a bad thing! For almost the same money there are webcams like 3Com's and the Philips Vesta Pro that are soooo much better than the IBM. If you've never used a webcam you might not notice - you'll just have to trust me. The jagged edge, grainy, and poor contrast images are unacceptable these days.
My Summary:
Price\Value - Decent price for a mediocre cam
Image Quality - Horrible
Notable Features - Good install with Win2000 & Win98.
Overall - AVOID!
