This is a really great laptop - I would definitely recommend it to anyone. I was looking for a computer for college, but it could easily be just as useful for a family, businessperson or a high school student. I use it for everything - having it means that I can study in my dorm room, in the library, or outside, if I feel like it. In addition, it means that I can bring my computer home during breaks and play with it on the train ride home!
Besides just making my life easier, this computer was a real bargain. I bought it through a program with my college, but even at full price, this is worth every cent. I upgraded the RAM to 96 MB, which turned out to be more than I actually ever need, and I wouldn't suggest that anyone do that. I didn't, however, upgrade the hard drive, and now I'm paying the price. With mp3s and movies taking up more space than I can spare, it's frustrating to only have 4.8 gigs, especially when I see people who bought desktops with up to 20! I would recommend at least 8 gigs to anyone who is going to want to store large files. Increasing hard drive space is turning out to be very expensive.
Another thing I like about this laptop is that it's pretty durable. Mine has survived countless train rides and trips around campus, sometimes just in my backpack, and I've never had a problem with it. One of my roommates spilled coke on hers, and one of the keys now sticks, but it still works perfectly.
The speed is perfect - no one really needs more that this computer provides. In addition, the computer is fairly light, and the screen is HUGE for a laptop in its price range. It's a great computer, and I'm SO glad I bought it.
