X20 gets out of the box rave review

by culver , May 23 '01
Pros: Easy to use, snap to network, keyboard makes me a typist, screen is clear!
Cons: Well, a sound from hard drive or fan has me concerned.
Years ago I used a Thinkpad at a client site and it was not only heavy, but unusual things would happen every other time it was used via a network then modem setup. This X20 is a vast improvement!

I bought this X20 at a sale. I also got a...

The Sexy X20

by csonger , Jan 09 '01
Pros: small, fast, and solid with an external video out port
Cons: pricey
Laptops have been sexy since they were first introduced. Even a 30lb computer with a handle was exciting in the beginning because of the promise of portability. So it should come as no surprise that ultra-lightweight laptops are the hottest products...

Powerful ultraportable for the power user

by abooth , May 13 '01
Pros: Small, light. Excellent construction and components, fast disk.
Cons: Limited expansion. Expensive.
Overview

I wanted to buy a laptop that I could take everywhere with me. The X20 is one of the lightest in its class, has IBM construction quality and seemed very well specced.

Buying

I bought direct from IBM...

Totally destroyed my faith in Thinkpads. TOTALLY.

by expert_witness , Feb 26 '01
Pros: Very cute and light
Cons: Unreliable, criminally negligent tech support, no ports or floppy, a true Helen Keller machine
This has been the laptop from hell. After just a week of ownership, with nearly two 8-hour days on the phone with IBM tech support (they got paid for it, I didn't), my brand new X20 won't even boot and IBM is refusing to support their machine. Their...

Best notebook on the market

by bkterry , Jul 03 '01
Pros: Extremely thin and light yet very sturdy and powerful.
Cons: none
I've used just about every major brand of notebook that exists. When it came time for me make my next notebook purchase, I chose IBM because of the build quality and legendary keyboard. I thought hard about an A-series or T-series, but after owning...

Best ultrathin notebook in the market

by jthsu , Sep 22 '00
Pros: Ultra-light, good screen and keyboard
Cons: No CD-Rom/Floppy and even serial port
Thinkpad X20 is the product I've been looking for and now I finally got it.

I have been using thinkpad 600E for a while and have no intention to switch simply because I could not find a better machine. However, one thing that did bother me...

What a box!

by stevejenks , Mar 01 '01
Pros: Weight, Battery life, speed
Cons: No serial port
I needed a new laptop to lug around to meetings and to my customers (I'm a network engineer), and since I'm on the road all the time I needed something light. I've always been a ThinkPad guy, due to their very robust construction. I need a machine that...
