Forte Agent!! Don't Know What to Make of it--

by linda1527 , Feb 05 '00
Pros: great for newsgroups and regular email
Cons: Not a piece of cake in my opinion
Forte Agent is a newsreader, the best I've been told by many, including the person who sold it to me and said it was 'piece of cake to use. Quite frankly, after almost 4 months I'm still trying to figure out whether I like it or not, and just what those...

Using Forte to Download Movies, Software and Music

by DavidGriffiths , Apr 05 '01
Pros: Simplifies finding and getting binary files
Cons: Not for casual newsgroup users, configuration glitches
Agent, Free Agent, Outlook Express and Netscape have at one time or another been my gateway to the world of newsgroups.

For casual use (reading job newsgroups, for-sale newsgroups, etc) Outlook Express is the easiest by far.

But so...

Free Agent - Worth the money?

by vachipep Epinions Most Popular Authors - Top 1000, May 11 '00
Pros: Free, multi-tasking
Cons: lack of features, difficulty with binaries
Most Windows 95/98 users stick to Microsoft's bloatware Internet suite for all of their Internet needs. I am one who likes to use a program that is specifically designed to handle a specific task.

For Web browsing, the only real players are...

How to tell if you should use Agent

by Fatgas , Apr 02 '00
Pros: The runaway fave in Usenet.
Cons: Email client isn't for everybody
Do you participate in multiple email lists and use separate email identities in each list? IF so, don't use Agent: it doesn't handle multiple email identities. For example, you can't say, "If I respond to a message in my WindowsHelpList folder,...

Thumbs Up, Hands Down

by Liffey , Jan 14 '00
Pros: easy, full-featured, highly configurable
Cons: remarkable for its newsreader, not email
Forte Agent. It's why I bother with Usenet.

Those are bold words, considering there are many fine newsreaders for different platforms to choose from. But let's say that you use Windows. And you want to be a full-on Usenet participant. Then...

The best newsreader, no questions asked

by shivohum , Nov 19 '99
Pros: Extraordinarily powerful, lots of utilities, great value, super-reliable
Cons: None
Since Usenet is not as well-known as the Web, I'm separating this review into two parts: general Usenet/newsreader information, and Agent-specific information.

General Usenet/Newsreader information

As much as the web and e-mail are...

One step above

by Windowphobe , Feb 13 '00
Pros: Makes unruly Usenet manageable
Cons: Please have your credit card number ready
I have yet to see a T-shirt that says "Whip me, beat me, but don't make me read Usenet on the Web." I figure, though, it's just a matter of time; if your interest in the world's most extensive collection of discussion groups is more than...

A Satisfied Customer

by pharder , Oct 31 '99
Pros: Crafted with care and has everything I need in an email client.
Cons: Lacks some features provided by the market leaders.
I've been using Forté Agent since well before the company released version 1.0; in fact, I served as a beta tester for much of that time. The program is still my favorite email client. I simply wouldn't use another unless forced to do so. I didn't...

Forte Agent, great software!

by DJDZA26 , Jan 25 '00
Pros: easy interface, customizable
Cons: spam in groups (nothing to do with forte agent though)
Forte Agent Newsreader is the definitive newsgroup software on the market. Forte Agent has an easy interface that is interchangable to your liking. You can view a list of available groups and the messages in a group at the same time, or you can view...

Agent - The BEST newsgroup (USENET) browser out there

by jimbaggins , Apr 13 '00
Pros: Low Cost, Lifetime updates, Filtering, Multi-part posts joined automatically
Cons: Can't set up your own hot keys, Should be able to fill in part of an email address and have Agent supply a list of matching addresses from your address book
When I first signed up for the Internet, I was like a lot of people. "USENET? Sounds like a bunch of junk." As I got more experienced with the Internet I started exploring the USENET groups. I found that I really enjoyed the alt.binaries...

Need a news reader? Agent may be it.

by phreaki , Mar 04 '00
Pros: Fast, easy attachment downloading.
Cons: Image downloading becomes a chore.
I cannot say that Forte Free Agent is the end-all of news clients.
I cannot say that Forte Agent ($$ version) is the end-all of news clients.

What I can say however, is that Forte has the best software for those of you that need to...

Best Newsreader on the Market

by Sinclari , Dec 04 '00
Pros: So easy to use my Mother can use it
Cons: Can only connect to one news server at a time.
I first got the free version and from then on I was hooked. I love downloading binaries; jpgs, gifs, wavs, mp3s, etc... You get the picture I imagine.

Agent is very easy to setup and configure and you can connect to most any news server your...

Great For Newsgroups

by glaswizz , Jan 11 '00
Pros: Simple to use, all kinds of options
Cons: none
My computer wizard of a husband is the one who first showed me Forte Agent. Actually, we had Free Agent first, but he insisted that we switch. Now, I do not like change. I did not want to try this new idea of his, because I figured it would take...

Agent's Little Sister, Forte Free Agent

by adonna Epinions Most Popular Authors - Top 1000, Feb 25 '00
Pros: Free Agent runs on 3.1!
Cons: It has fewer of the filters than Agent.
If you're like me, you like freeware. And if you're like me, you like news. Forte Free Agent gives you both. It's an excellent newsreader for that USENET news you've been hearing about. There's some excellent info out there on the history and...

Best News Reading Program

by bricks , Apr 02 '00
Pros: features, inexpensive
Cons: lacks advanced features in outlook, netscape
Forte Agent, the best news program out there, that's really all that needs to be said. With it's unique interface and large collection of features it is above and beyond the other programs out there, and it is only $29. Some new users may get lost...
