| Airmark1's Full Review: Verizon Mobile Phone Service in San Francisco/San ... |
Verizon (GTE) has been my 2nd service in the Bay Area. Previously, I had Pacific Bell (cingular). For now though, and the past 4 years, I have been a devoted Verizon Wireless customer, and do not plan on changing in the near future.
WHO - Verizon Wireless - www.verizonwireless.com - They came together a while back from several wireless companies. (GTE, Airtouch, ETC)
WHAT - I am a subscriber of the National SingleRate - 400 Plan. I have a monthly service charge of about 55 bucks that comes out to 65-70 with taxes and possible overtime.
I own a Motorola V60c Tri-Mode phone that receives Digital and Analog signals. Usually there is a strong Digital signal; but when I get to a more rural area, my phone then clicks over to Analog, and I can still make calls. The Analog calls are okay in quality, and included in the minutes package at no extra charge.
As far as Digital, I have been using the phone all over the U.S. Literally. I am pilot, so I am in several different places during the month. I have found that I get a strong digital signal in almost all of the cities that I travel to, and if there is a signal, the call clarity is still strong and un-dropped.
Before GTE become Verizon, I had about 4 dropped calls in a year or so. Since it has switched to Verizon, I have had about 5 (in 7 months). It is not a big jump, just a little thing that I have noticed. It is nothing compared to the dropped calls that my friends have who are using Sprint.
My service plan also includes the voicemail and other features like Call Waiting, Caller ID, Call forwarding, No answer Transfer, Busy Transfer, And Best Yet - TWO WAY TEXT MESSAGING, plus more.
When - I am not a believer in the OFF PEAK - ON PEAK concept. I chose the 400-minute deal. ANYTIME. I might pay a little extra in the outcome, but I cannot deal with "can I make the call yet, or do I have to wait until 6PM and a full moon?" As far as getting a "dial tone", I have only gotten a few "sorry or circuits are busy" errors. Very few indeed.
Where - Like I said, it has worked clearly, with a Digital Signal almost everywhere I have gone to around the U.S.
Here is a link to the "MAP" where Verizon says it has service.

Why - I travel a lot. I do not want to pay roaming/long distance. I need a connection with the world.
How - See, thingys and waves, and other things go, swooooosh, and bounce all over the place, and stuff, and, you know, it....I HAVE NO IDEA
