My parents have pretty much everything they need, and happily can afford those things they want in this world. This is a great situation until it's time to buy gifts for them. Somehow, one must figure out something they'll enjoy that they haven't thought to buy for themselves. No knick-knacks will do. They have enough stuff. They keep kosher and are always dieting so food choices are limited. This year, I opted for magazine subscriptions.
I found Magmall.com through Mypoints.com. Mypoints.com is a reward site and making purchases by going through them should earn 2 points per dollar spent. When sufficient points are accumulated, these can be redeemed for gift certificates or products. I went through mypoints.com. As long as I was searching for magazines, I was in frames that indicated mypoints.com was recording my transactions. As soon as I went to make a purchase, however, magmall.com kicked out of mypoints.com. Having made the purchase, therefore, I didn't get credited with points. Mypoints.com was good about getting back to me on how to handle the situation. Magmall.com did not respond to my emails. Working with mypoints.com, I eventually did get credited for the purchase, but magmall.com was totally unresponsive.
I finally decided on two magazine subscriptions for my father. One was to be for his birthday. This year, that fell a couple of days before father's day. I decided to have the gift cards for both sent to arrive on his birthday.
I placed the order in mid-May. Dad's birthday is in mid-June. My credit card showed a transaction at the end of the order. I checked back a few days later and the transaction showed when I logged into my account.
Dad's birthday came and went. Unfortunately, no card did. Father's day came and went. Still no card. I went to their contact us page and emailed them on the Monday after father's day explaining the situation. No response.
I waited until the mail arrived on the Wednesday following father's day with no card and no response from them. I called magmall.com's help number. I talked to a very nice lady (whose name I didn't copy down). I explained the situation. She looked up the subscriptions and found that the cards had been sent out the day after my father's birthday. I found this odd as they still had not arrived, but took her at her word.
I told her how angry I was that their screw-up had caused me to have no gift for my father on either of his days. She offered to extend one of my subscriptions by a year to make up for it. I thought that was a great idea.
We went out of town the next day. Sometime while we were gone, the cards did arrive. The magazines that I ordered and paid for in May for a birthday in June will begin arriving in July and August respectively. Seems to me that it takes them an awfully long time to get started. I wonder if they have been holding my money until the cards were sent, or what.
Today, I checked my account page. Neither of the magazine subscriptions appears to have been extended. I called the service number. I was told there is no record of my last call, and no record of such an offer being made.
I am disgusted down the line with this company. I will renew these magazines next year. I will not renew through magmall.com.
Besides my father's subscriptions, I also have 2 magazine subscriptions of my own and would have considered more for other family members. It won't happen now.
I'm totally disgusted with this company and strongly recommend you find another service to help you order your magazines.
