There is a brick and mortar JCPenney department store in our hometown, but it is very small. The closest full size storefront requires an approximate 30 – 40 minute drive. For a substantial time I have received the seasonal JCPenney catalogs. Originally I placed catalog orders via phone, but thankfully have utilized – for a substantial period of time – the convenience of ordering online. I am exceptionally pleased with this online merchant, appreciate the quality of the merchandise received, admire the timely deliveries, and like the accuracy in the billing process. On the rare occasion that a product hasn't met our expectations, returns have never been challenged. I feel that the shipping costs are fair and that the merchandise is carefully packaged. After countless successful purchases, it is easy for me to recommend the JCPenney Online Store and state that I will continue to patronize this merchant.
Detailed Review
It is my view that the web site has greatly improved during the last few years. Although it used to be slow and at times confusing, the site is now speedy (even with a dial-up connection) and upon arriving at JCPenney Online Store, the navigation sidebar offers a direct path to categories: women's, men's, children's, shoes, jewelry, for the home, toys, sports & leisure, electronics & music, gift & registry, online outlet store, customer service, shopping bag. Each category offers detailed listings for simple navigation for the products/sizes you want to browse. For example, when I navigate to the children's category, I am then given a sidebar that includes newborn, infant, toddler, boys 4-7, girls 4-6x, boys 8-20, girls 7-16, dress up, outerwear, sleepwear, accessories, school uniforms, on the move, bedding, furniture, holiday gifts. I appreciate the amount of detail provided for each product. The pictures are of good quality, providing realistic representation of items that this merchant sells. Picture options allow me to see the picture larger, select alternate views of the product, or pan and zoom. The product page (on pair of girl's sweats) also gives me options of viewing fit information or size charts. When I decide to purchase an item, it is simple to load the desired merchandise into the shopping bag. At that point I can continue shopping or proceed to the shopping bag and check out.
I have ordered linens, household items, toys, clothing, and shoes from this online merchant. The majority of our purchases have been apparel items for the girls, now 8 & 13. This merchant carries brand names such as Mudd®, Bongo®, LEI®, Levi's®, Skechers®, their signature Arizona Jean Co.® brand and many more.
I have had some of the purchases shipped to our home, while other orders we have picked up at a local catalog desk. It is my view that the shipping rates for either option is reasonable, or at least comparable to most online department stores. However I do feel that this merchant would increase sales by offering free delivery to their catalog sites. For a comprehensive list of shipping rates and options, please visit the online site.
On the rare occasion that a return was necessary, these have been handled kindly yet professionally, never questioned. The reasons have included wrong sizes or product failure (shrinkage or tears). I have always returned the items to our local catalog desk, however it is possible to ship the item back.
I recommend signing up for email notification, thus allowing you to receive prompt alerts of sales. This has, at times, saved me 25 – 50% off of merchandise and occasionally free shipping.
In addition to utilizing www.jcpenney.com for shopping you can also locate stores near you, request catalogs, and find information about JCPenney (including corporate information or store specific services such as salon, optical and portraits).
