component to vesa cable input (Reply to this comment)
by zhany2
Hi there,
A component to VESA cable shouldn't cost you $45. They over-charged you.
To answer your question -- the VESA input only accepts progressive scan signals. Make sure your DVD player is outputing a progressive signal.
If your DVD player's component output is incapable of a progressive signal, get the custom component to S-Video cable that Infocus sells. [I have no experience at all with this cable or how well it works.]

Great review! I was wondering if you could offer me some advice as to why my projector (x1) isn't finding a signal from my component to vesa cable input? (since you are soo well educated and informed! :) ) It's very frustrating since I spent an additional $45 dollars on component cables and hookups!!

Hi dlpcraig,
I have not posted any configs as they are dependent on what version of the X1 firmware you use, what input you use, and what DVD player you use.
For example, many of the screwed up problems with default settings crushing "black" were only exhibited in 3.6, and were fixed in the 4.1 firmware. Now the X1 is pretty accurate out of the box. I still tweaked mine a bit, but it's now more a matter of preference rather than necessity.

GREAT review! (Reply to this comment)

I thoroughly enjoyed this review...all seven times I've read it. I don't have the AVIA disc, but I do have the Ultimate Platinum disc, as well as a simple THX one. My one question: could you PLEASE write to me (theoriginalcraig@hotmail.com) and give me the individual setting levels? As it is only a few, I'd love to know your specific numeric values so I can achieve the same image as you. While I have my own settings, I'll happily set one of my custom settings to your EXPERT opinion. Thanks so very much for the help!

I am hoping to purchase one of these next month (Oct '03), first selling off my bulky Sony 1042Q CRT projector. So naturally I have been very nervous about going from CRT to DLP. Thanks to your technically insightful review, I am not so nervous anymore! Maybe once I get this I will also post a review here as well.
Thanks again, keep up the excellent reviews!
