Pros: A lot of features for a good price
Cons: Doesn't come with XP CD or any recovery CD out of the box.
The Bottom Line: If you plan to buy this system just be aware that it has MAJOR potential problems, but that is the case with technology in general.

| rodog's Full Review: Sony Vaio PCV-RS310 P4-2.4GHz/256/80/DVD-RW/CD-RW/... |
When I initially set up this computer it was easy. I got my cable connection set up quickly and started doing some windows updates that were "suggested" for me to do. It seemed to hang, so I tried to shut it down. The system was slow to respond so a half hour later my system finally shuts down and reboots...to a DOS screen that gives me the "atypical" safe mode options and regular windows, etc....any one I select take me back to the same screen with the additional message that I have
corrupted the HAL.DLL file (which has something to do with hardware activation and D(ynamic) L(ink) L(ibrary) files when corrupted lead to the infamous reinstall of your OS), and I need to insert the XP disc to reinstall the file. I then found out that the system doesn't come with any CDs. You are suppose to create Recovery CDs from the "Media Recovery Kit", which I saw for a brief moment when I had the computer working for 20 minutes. So back to the store it goes and I get another one. After setting it up again I immediately create the seven recovery CDs, except that the last CD, which is the "first of seven", didn't seem to write anything to the CD-R, which BTW you have to use CD-Rs and not CD-RWs...spits the CD back out. So today I got to the Sony site to try to find out if that is how it works and lo and behold they have this WARNING that you shouldn't create recovery CDs, because the image on the system is bad! You really need to go the Sony site and read about it for the details. Go to online support and type in the question "There are no System Recovery CDs (SRCDs) included with the computer." That will give you the whole shabang on the whole thing. But wait it gets better....since you can't create the CDs Sony will send you the CDs for somewhere around $40......After I have had it for more than a month I will be doing another review....give me some time to really play with it ;p
