| sskoshi's Full Review: Motel 6 |
After deciding to go on vacation to Disney World for a few days, my husband and I started looking at our hotel/motel options.
We aren't rich, we aren't well off, we have just enough money to get by and be happy. Already knowing that the Disney park entrance was gonna be pricey and the cost of the food was gonna add up, we opted for a cheap motel. After having stayed in motel 6 before, and not really having any complaints before, we went to the Motel 6 website and looked around. We found the Motel 6 Maingate East in Kissimmee, FL motel and a nice price for the Disney world area -only $26 a night. We booked our room online, I printed out a confirmation page. Several Weeks later, we were on our way.
The Arrival
We arrived at our motel 6 maingate east. It was a little difficult to find, hiding behind a McDonalds. But we found it none the less. It was a Friday night and there were about 15 people in the lobby checking in. There were 2 people at the front desk and they were handling things as quickly as possible. When it came to our turn, the front desk people were still pleasant and nice, and curteous and still had a good sense of humor. We get our room information and head to the room. We pass 1 pool on the way to the room and see 1 more pool on the otherside of the motel 6 parking lot.
The Room
Well, it was a basic, simple, cheap room. Since the motel was filling up, all they had left were handicapped rooms. So, we accepted the handicapped room. This kind of made me mad, since we had reservations and they apparently gave our room to someone else, otherwise they would have had a non-handicapped room for us.
The room had 2 full size beds, a tv with about 10 channels including HBO, a nightstand, a garbage can, and the tv was sitting on a desk looking table. There is no alarm clock in the room - be prepared to bring one with you. The room was Clean and the A/C was already running so the room was also comfortable. The nearest ice machine from where our room was, was a good 5 minute walk away.
The bathroom was also very Clean and since it was a handicapped room, it was very Large. This confused me, since the room itself didn't seem like it was large enough for a wheelchair. Again, there are no ammenities. They did leave 1 small bar of soap wrapped up in their signature Motel 6 wrapper. There were plenty of towels, washcloths, and floor mats - and all were clean. There was a small problem with the shower nozzle -its the kind that you can remove and use as a hand sprayer. It wouldn't stay put to use as a shower. The Water pressure in the shower was, well it was pretty pathetic. I am the type of person who can usually get in take a shower and be out in 10 minutes - the water pressure was so bad here, it took 10 minutes just to wash my hair.
The motel has 2 pools -but both close at 10pm - the one further from the office was still being used at midnight, so we decided to go for a swim also. The Pool was NOT very clean. Perhaps it was better that we went at night. It was heated, and the area was decently lit, there was also a boys and girls bathroom there. The water itself was murky and very unclean.
Unlike almost every other hotel/motel in the area - Motel 6 does not offer any form of transportation to the Disney parks.
Overall
This motel 6 was not bad at all - you definately get what you pay for. Considering our whole purpose for this motel was to just rest our head at night without breaking the bank, this motel 6 did just that.
Other experiences
Our other Motel 6 experiences have usually been just as pleasant. We stayed at one in Memphis, TN that kind of scared us. The only thing wrong with that one is the neighborhood it was in. But, there was an International House of Waffles accross the parking lot from it and it did have a pool right outside our room.
This room was also clean, but there was an incident with that room - Apparently the previous person that had payed for a nights stay decided she didn't want the room after all, then went crazy and left - leaving behind all of her belongings in the room. BUT, the front desk lady was kind enough to go into the room and remove her belongings and clean up a bit.
Every Motel 6 we have stayed at has been pleasant and clean, and very basic. Our favorite feature about Motel 6 is that they allow pets. That is very handy when you are trying to drive cross country and need a place to sleep with Fido. We also plan on using Motel 6 as our hurricane evacuation motel, if the time ever comes.
All in all, this Motel isn't bad as long as you plan accordingly and aren't stuck up about the ammenities. I have certainly been in far worse - including some so called 4 star hotels and some fancy name brand hotels.
