| paulrannis's Full Review: 2002 Chevrolet Silverado 2500 HD Crew |
Chevrolet 2500HD, Crew Cab, 4x4, LT, 8.1L engine, SWB
I purchased this truck back in June 2002. I absolutely love this truck. It is very comfortable, drives awesome, has power like a sports car, halls a*s!. Besides the gas mileage, I can't believe that anyone would buy a different truck. I get 8 - 10 MPG on average. I usually drive in town. When I drive on the freeway, I am getting 10 - 11 MPG unless I am pulling my boat. Then I get 6 - 8 MPG. Horrible. I think that if you are looking for a truck with this type of engine and power, you have to expect horrible gas mileage. I knew it when I bought mine! The only thing that I think is absolutely ridiculous is the size of the gas tank. I had a Suburban before this. It had a 40 gallon tank and got 14 MPG. This gets almost 1/2 the gas mileage and they put a 24 gallon tank in this truck. I drive an average of 20k miles per year. That averages to 500 miles per week. That means I fill up this tank 2x per week !!! Nevertheless, I still LOVE this truck. It is 100% TRUCK ! because of its horrible gas mileage, I went out and bought a VW Jetta for puttin' around town. It saves me quite a bit of money on the gas.
