Pros: Sleek design. Great paperweight.
Cons: Unreliable to scan. Software has too much cutesy stuff and not enough basic function.
The Bottom Line: Maybe a newer scanner is better equipped for Windows XP, but I would find another brand

| kjdem's Full Review: Hewlett Packard ScanJet 3570C Flatbed Scanner |
Our office recently upgraded computers to Windows XP Pro and at the same time decided to get me a new scanner. An older HP scanjet which worked well was replaced with the Scanjet 4570c. I doubt if I will ever buy another HP scanner again. I basically need the ability to scan photos and a few slides several times a week. The HP software that comes with this scanner has got all kinds of bells and whistles that I will never use and I do not have the option of installing only the basic drivers.
The scanner is connected via a USB port. I can usually get one or two scans completed before I get an error message that the scanner cannot be found. Any other USB device works fine in both of the USB ports on the desktop, so it's not an issue with the USB. Repeated phone calls to HP have always resulted in the same thing - uninstall and reinstall. I waste more time trying to get scans made than I would by going to the local copy shop. One tech told me to disable Microsoft's Image Acquisition services and it would work. It did not.
Trying to talk to tech support also involves dealing with HP's voice-activated answering services. There is no way to talk to a live person to expedite a call.
My job responsibilities include trouble shooting computer and network problems. The issues with this scanner have caused me more problems than anything else. We decided not to pay for an extended warranty (beyond the first 6 months) and to put the money into a different brand scanner that will work.
