| anschris's Full Review: Century SE Overhead |
We purchased the Century SE Overhead car seat four weeks ago. No complaints so far! There are several great features:
Easy Installation:
* It only took my husband 10 minutes to install this car seat, from the time he took it out of the box to the time we put our son in it to go. The instructions are very clear and the picture guide is surprisingly accurate and easy to follow.
Restraint Bar:
* I like the feeling of extra security that the restraint bar provides. My nephew is 17 months and has actually unbuckled himself from his car seat. With the restraint bar, there's no way our baby could reach the buckle between his legs.
* Our son loves to bang on the restraint bar. It is padded and the cover is soft. When he's tired he rubs the cover while he's falling asleep.
* The restraint bar is adjustable to five different settings, so that as your child grows he won't feel squished behind the bar.
* There are snack cups on either side of the restraint bar. While this doesn't matter to us now, it will be nice to have someplace to put a road-trip snack when he's a little older.
Restraint Harness:
* The restraint system is very easy to operate (once you get the hang of it). One buckle between the legs, one snap at the chest, and you're ready to go. SO much more convenient that the eleventeen buckles and straps on a traditional 5-point model.
* The harness tie at chest level is a buckle which also slides for ease of adjustment. It is very easy to unbuckle the harness tie and get the straps over my son's head, without waking him up, though you do have to have a fair amount of strength and dexterity to open it. Baby wouldn't be able to get it open... my 10 year old brother can't even get it open!
* There are two positions to buckle between the legs. That means that when my son is bigger, he won't be sitting on the buckle.
* The tightness of the harness is adjustable with a simple tug on a strap that is well out of the baby's reach. Put baby in, cinch it up. Loosen it to take baby out more easily and gently. What a great feature!
Other Features:
* Level indicator, so you can tell when it's installed properly.
* Will easily accommodate my child as he grows.
* Rear facing newborn-30 lb and one year, forward facing 20-40 lb. Certified for aircraft use.
* Made of sturdy plastic, not likely to break
* Seat cover and restraint bar cover are both removable and machine washable.
This car seat is really excellent. We found it on sale at Wal-Mart and jumped on it! I wish we had bought this seat in the first place instead of monkeying around with the infant carrier travel system.
