Morning, Day, & Night Sickness

Apr 02 '01

The Bottom Line The worst part of pregnancy.

Who better to write something about morning sickness then someone who is experiencing this dreadfull side effect now.

At first when I found out I was pregnant with my 6th child I was shocked, happy, excited, and then came sick! Almost immediately after finding out I was pregnant, the nausea started. Being that I have had morning sickness before with my second daughter, I thought OK, I can do this for a few weeks. Was I ever wrong. This isn't the usual morning sickness. This is nausea ALL THE TIME. I think that I would prefer throwing up, then feeling like I am going to.

But I had to deal with it. There is nothing to do for it but suffer until it stops. So I thought. My symptoms were simple, if I looked, smelled or heard about food I would just lay down and cover my head. I was hungry, but nothing was appealing. Nothing at all. So I decided that my doctor needed to know and see if there was something he could do to maybe ease the nausea just a little. Because I knew that not eating was not healthy for the baby, and not for me either.

After explaining to him what was going on, I waited as he contimplated my daily life. I thought he was going to give me this miracle drug that would just make me feel better instantly, but to my surprise he didn't. He gave me a simple solution to a terrible problem.

Eat dry foods, such as toast or crackers, and drink about 20 minutes later. Never mix the two together. Seems to easy doesn't it. I thought for sure he was sending me home with useless information, but I thought what the heck let me try it. Couldn't hurt, could it! So I got home and tried it. Ate 2 pieces of toast with a little butter, and drank warm tea about 30 minutes later. Well guess what? It actually worked. I wasn't nauseated after eating, and I could actually sit up with laying right back down 5 minutes later.

So to all you pregnant Mommies who are having this feeling, take some advice from a Mother of almost 6 who thought she knew all the tricks. Just because it sounds too easy, doesn't mean it doesn't work.

And another little hint. Drink hot soda, instead of cold. Don't know why, but it works for me.

I have 5 1/2 months to go before I meet my 6th angel, I can't wait as usual. I know morning sickness can be tough to deal with. Seems like it is never going to end, and you just lose all hope. But believe me, it ends. And you look back and say WOW what a ride that was. But it does end. Just take care of yourself, go to regular doctor visits, and if there is something wrong, even the slightest worry, call your doctor.

I wish all you a Happy Pregnancy & Good Luck.
