Remember playing Mario Paint. It was a great game as I recall. I've been playing Animal Crossing recently, though, which features a paint program in the game itself that's similar to Mario Paint. You can use this feature to design patterns for your shirt, your umbrella, or even your own house.
Another interesting game that's kind of like Mario Paint I've played recently is Magic Pengel: The Quest for Color. Of course, this game is an RPG, though. But, in its ability to let you draw your own 2D creatures, it also has the power to warp your drawings right into the 3D game itself. I mean, your drawings will become a part of the game, where you can use them in battle against other interesting creatures. Both Animal Crossing and Magic Pengel are games I think you might be interested in if you like that kind of odd stuff.
