Not too long ago I saw a commercial for the Clorox Bleach Pen. I was immediately intrigued! With two little ones I have a lot of stained clothes in my life. I figured the Clorox Bleach Pen was the answer to my laundry dreams. Unfortunately for me, this nifty little product hasn't completely answered my prayers.
~*~Cost & Location~*~
I purchased my Clorox Bleach Pen at my local Wal-Mart for a mere $2.97. You can purchase this almost anywhere Clorox products are sold, varying in price.
~*~Just The Facts Folks~*~
The Clorox Bleach Pen is indeed a neat little product, shaped like a chunky pen, containing 2 OZ of gel bleach. It has two different tips, a narrow, pen like tip and a circle tip with small scrubbers on it. The idea behind this product is that you can apply the bleach to garments that have colored stripes, flowers, or patterns. The pen like tip makes it simple to get in between the patterns, letting you bleach only the white areas. The larger tip makes it easy to bleach larger white areas! Clorox promises that this product can get out tough stains such as wine, juice, grass, dirt, coffee and other hard to remove stains.
The Clorox Bleach Pen can be used for laundering and for household use. Have some stubborn grout or caulking that just won't come clean? You can use this nifty little product for getting into those small, difficult areas!
The formula in the Clorox Bleach Pen is pretty gel like and a pearly white in color. The scent isn't nearly as strong as regular bleach. The formula is the perfect consistency, not too runny and not too thick. It squeezes out of each tip with ease.
To use the Clorox Bleach Pen simply shake it before each use, remove the cap on whichever end you prefer and apply it! If using this product for laundering, be sure to wash it promptly after applying it. Always check for color fastness on clothing. If using it for household use, follow the same steps and be sure to wipe and rinse clean. It's as simple as that!
Clorox doesn't recommend using this product on dry clean only garments, spandex, wool, silk, linen or mohair. They also don't recommend using it on silver, and avoid long exposure on metal surfaces or plastic laminate counter tops. Also, when using it for laundering purposes, try to wash the article of clothing with an almost entirely white load.
As with all house hold cleaning products, keep out of the reach of children.
~*~My Experience~*~
As I mentioned earlier in my review, I had hoped that the Clorox Bleach Pen was the answer to my prayers. My daughters manage to get their clothes filthy. Food stains, grass stains, dirt, you name it, it's probably been on their clothes! We all know clothing isn't cheap, so, I take every measure possible to get out those stubborn stains.
I really liked the dual tip applicators and the fact that the formula squeezes out with ease. The first article of clothing I used the Clorox Bleach Pen on was my oldest daughter's white sweat pants. They have a cute little glittery design on the seat of them, which prevented me from just bleaching them. She had gotten spaghetti sauce all over the legs and every product I tried had failed to remove the stains. I used the circle tip with the little scrubbers and scrubbed the bleach formula into the stains. I let it sit for a minute and then threw it in the wash with our regular detergent. Imagine my disappointment when the stains were still there at the end of the washing cycle. Determined I tried again, only to receive the same results.
I then tried it on a white shirt with a cute little pattern on the front. The pen like tip was the perfect size for getting around the pattern. I scrubbed the gel in, let it sit for a minute and then threw it in the wash. Once again, the Clorox Bleach Pen failed to remove the stain.
I have tried this product on a couple of my garments, and had very limited success. Sometimes it would remove part of the stain, or, it wouldn't work at all. I was extremely disappointed in the Clorox Bleach Pen. The commercials depict this product as literally working miracles. Unfortunately, it just didn't do that for me!
I have yet to use it on any household surfaces, and not sure I would even attempt it. After my poor experiences with this product, it still sits, unused, on my laundry room shelf.
