| dlstewart's Full Review: Fellowes 11053 COPYHOLDER KA METAL BLACK LETTER |
Working at the computer requires both hands on the keyboard. Since work is expected to fly from my desk, I don't have time to fight with the papers I am working from. I needed a copyholder. Enter the Fellowes Metal Copyholder (Model # 11053). I've been using this copyholder for several years, and it makes a big difference in my productivity.
What the Copyholder Looks Like
The copyholder is constructed from durable black metal with two round rubber feet on the bottom to help prevent the holder from sliding. An adjustable brace at the back of the copyholder keeps it open at the desired reading angle (two rubber feet are attached to the bottom). The brace is riveted in place on either side where it attaches to the holder, and the rivets allow the base to pivot open or closed. A metal ledge at the bottom of the holder is 3/4" wide with a lip 3/8" high to hold papers or a thin book. The copyholder is 10 5/8" wide x 11 3/8" high x 8 3/8" deep (when fully opened).
Two removable magnets keep papers firmly attached to the holder. One plastic magnet is rectangular (1 5/8" wide x 1 1/4" high x 1/2" deep). This rectangular magnet can sit anywhere on the metal holder to anchor papers in place. A second plastic magnet has a line guide attached to it. The magnet rests along the side of the copy holder (either the left, right or even the top side). The line guide is constructed of a thin but sturdy plastic and has two broad bands of blue color bordering a narrower band of clear color in the center -- the entire line guide is see-through. Overall measurements of the line guide are 10 1/2" long x 1 5/8" wide (this includes the magnet and line guide). The line guide by itself measures 9 1/2" long x 1 5/8" wide.
My Experiences
This is a wonderful copyholder that securely holds the papers I am typing from. When I'm working on spreadsheets or columns of information, the line guide is invaluable. The blue and clear lines on the see-through line guide make following lines of text easy. I move the line guide vertically or horizontally depending upon whether the line guide magnet is affixed to the side or top of the holder. Both sets of magnets are removable and can be placed where needed.
The ledge at the bottom of the copyholder keeps papers off of the desk. Occasionally I may have to type information from a catalog or thin brochure, and the ledge with its handy lip holds a booklet in position so the pages don't close.
The brace is solid metal and pivots to either fold flat or opens to whatever angle is needed. This is great to adjust the reading angle so that it is comfortable.
Another nice feature is that the copyholder folds flat. I keep my copyholder on the desk all the time, but if needed, I can fold the holder flat and store it somewhere out of the way until it is needed.
I like the all metal construction of this copyholder. I've used this holder for three years, and the black metal finish looks almost new. The magnets are strong and never shift position unless they have human assistance.
If I had to pick one thing that didn't work well on this copyholder, it would be the rubber feet that are supposed to keep the holder from moving. If the holder stands almost completely vertical, then the rubber feet touch the desk and prevent the holder from shifting. However, I usually have the brace at the back of the holder completely extended, which angles the rubber feet so they do not completely touch the desk. Even with this inconvenience, though, the metal construction of the copyholder makes it heavy enough not to shift.

Purchasing
Our office supply buyer bought this copyholder from staples.com for about $30.00. I looked on the staples website and the unit is currently selling for $31.49. OfficeMax also sells this copyholder for $35.29.
This copyholder is available in two colors: black and putty. I use the letter-size copyholder, but it is also available in a legal size for larger papers.
Summary
The Fellowes Metal Copyholder is the best copyholder I have ever used. It securely holds papers in place, freeing my hands for the important job of typing fast so that my work gets done in a timely fashion. The less fussing I have to do with my work, the better!
