I Can't Believe I Spent $40.00 On A Concealer!!

The Bottom Line You don't need a "designer" concealer, choose one that is yellow based and is heavier than your foundation. Apply it on TOP of your foundation and try before you buy!
Touche Eclat Highlighter
" Touche Eclat adds highlights, refreshes your makeup, and brightens your complexion. By capturing and reflecting light on specific areas of the face, Touche Eclat offsets the complexions dulling tendencies and revives its natural glow. Carefully formulated to suit the shade of every skin, from the fairest, to the darkest, Touche eclat comes in a single color."
Ha!... You're kidding me, right?!
What would possess someone to spend $40.00 on a concealer?! Magazines, celebrities and television - that's what!
I had been reading about YVES ST. LAURENT'S Touche Eclat for years and then one night while channel surfing, I stumbled across the Home Shopping Network (aahhhh) and immediately was sucked in! It was my first time and it was a makeup show - I couldn't help it!! I must have watched makeover after makeover, showing drastic transformations and before and afters. Everyone's under eye circles were miraculously gone!! Wow... would they be any other way on television, I thought! Now mine are not that bad, but what is it with us women always looking for that perfect product?! What's wrong with my circles anyway?! Being in the industry myself, I,too, know a lot of tricks for hiding under eye circles and the biggest is the lighting! If you are lit from underneath, everything is magically erased in the film world. They'll use special reflectors, mirrors or huge white cards and place them under the chin. Just the opposite lighting, directly overhead, causes circles to appear under the eyes. The same is true just by holding your head up or down. Also, many directors use special filters or put a special net over the lens, usually it's sheer black pantyhose, and this softens the skin. This technique is used mostly on women, it's all about looking good, which keeps me employed, but our society will not allow a woman to age gracefully or look bad on TV! True beauty shines from within!
SO...What does all this have to do with my expensive new concealer you say...
Well, as all of you know by now, I am the ultimate makeup junkie and must learn to - Just Say No! But - all the magazines and some of the top makeup people in the world are using this so it must be good, right? WRONG! Television and advertising are all about lies, they will say and do anything to get you to spend your hard earned money on their product. Trust me, I work in the industry that deceives people. I once worked on commercials advertising perms and the hairdresser painstakingly curled each strand of hair so it wouldn't look "fried" in the ad! They didn't even trust their own product!!
Back to my YSL concealer...
I opened up a Home Shopping Network account and anxiously awaited for my product to arrive in the mail. Saks also carries YSL but I hate going makeup shopping, I am always "attacked" by either perfume sprayers or someone ALWAYS wanting to give me a makeover! aaahhhh...So, I thought the convenience of mail order would really be worth it and save me all the hassles and HSN does take returns.
The arrival, application and big disappointment ...
Touche Eclat comes in a beautiful gold pen shaped cylinder. You simply take off the lid, and click the bottom of the pen, and the concealer is pumped into the brush at the top of the pen. It is a very sheer, ivory pink and is supposed to work on all skin tones. Well the truth is, it is so sheer that is covers absolutely nothing and disappears as you try and blend it into your skin. It does feel luxurious as I apply it, though, but, I think I'm just feeling guilty at this point! They say you can also use it on your eyelids as a base, but do you really want to spend $40.00 on that?! I have assisted many makeup artists who swear by this product because it doesn't get heavy or crease and you can't have that on the big screen. Most recently, I used this on a 16 year old actress who had a perfect complexion. Her film face consisted of, this concealer, Lancome powder,no mascara, Stila pale blue eyeshadow used as a liner and stila lip gloss and that was it - this worked great on her because she was already young and beautiful!
Their directions
When using Touche Eclat for the first time, press the button down at least 30 times to start the flow of the product.
Place a few dabs of Touche Eclat on the shadowy areas of your face (circles under the eyes, sides of nose, corners of lips, hollow of chin,...) over your regular makeup. Blend lightly with fingertips.
or try the professional approach: use Touche Eclat on your bare skin before applying foundation, to minimize shadows and highlight the natural contours of the face.
...So, in conclusion...
... the only person I think this product will work on, is someone who has no circles! There are a FEW ,out there, I said a few, who do not have dark circles, in the WORLD! I believe dark circles are hereditary and there's nothing that will completely get rid of them. But what's wrong with showing a little imperfection once and a while?! And did I tell you that it does not cover blemishes either?! So what DOES it do you say? ... Hmmm... it depletes your bank account and leaves you literally in the dark with the same circles you started with!
Would someone please tell Mr. Yves St. Laurent to please stick to designing clothes and not concealers, please! And don't ask me how to pronounce it, either!
Thanks for reading and keep your head up! Stay tuned for my latest product testing, St. Ives Dark Circle Diminisher...the quest continues!
