I called this review Net-flop but Net-fraud would be more like it.
Netflip.com is one of those websites where you earn "money" for clicking on special offers or making purchases through their site. Once you earn 20.00$ you're supposed to get a check automatically. SUPPOSED to does not mean you will, however. I'm still waiting for mine....
I signed up for it August, 2000, and back then, you could earn 5 cents for doing a search on their site and then clicking on the links. Then it dropped to two cents, and then one cent, and eventually they got rid of that option.
Now, there are two ways to to make money on the site: either complete one of their offers (signing up for TrimLife Herbal weight loss formula, or a free trial of bargain.com or the like) or to buy something through the stores listed on the shopping page of the site.
In theory this sounds pretty good. Most of the offers on the sign up "fast cash" part of the site pay a lot! 18.00 to sign up for a Discover Card, 20.00 to sign up for AOL. Even the instant cash offers are pretty sizeable -- 4 or 5 dollars a piece. Which would be great, if they actually sent out checks.
The "Cash back shopping" part of the website has a list of stores that they provide rebates ranging from 2% to 25% of the amount you purchase. This is how I eventually got my account up over 20$ -- I was going to be making some purchases and so I figured I'd buy them through the site and get the money back. They do have a lot of retailers -- barnes & noble, gap.com, eddie bauer, target.com, spiegel -- really something for everyone.
In my experience, I purchased two times through the site. One time, the money was credited to my account, no problem. The second time I waited and waited, eventually I decided to report it. After probably 15 minutes of clicking around in the site I found the spot to report it. (It was a completely convoluted system) I had to first put it what offer I should be credited with, and when the purchase was made, then, it told me that I had to wait another month to report it... A month later I did it again, this time I had to email them a copy of the receipt from the purchase and tell them the amount I thought I was due -- it was a 40$ order, and I was supposed to get 15% back - that's $6.00, right? when they finally credited my account they credited $1.68. huh?
Well, I figured, whatever. Finally my account was up over 20$, so I was going to get my check! In fact, when I logged in, I saw, "you have earned $20.23 in your NetFlip account and should be receiving your NetFlip check very soon". there was a spot on the site where I was supposed to verify my mailing address and request my check. I did that. In November.
On the very top of Netflip's website it says, "Total earnings of NetFlip members to date: $24,930,724.04"
My question is, how much have they actually disbursed?
To me, they've given zero. And that's what I think of them.
UPDATE: 7-6-04: Today, I received the check!! I'll keep you updated as to whether or not it bounces...
