| skunkmonkey's Full Review: Microsoft Flight Simulator 2002 Professional for W... |
Throughout the years, Microsoft Flight Simulator has evolved into quite a masterpiece. Unlike many year-to-year games such as EA's NHL series, Microsoft Flight Simulator adds large amounts of great features each year. I have both flight simulator 1998 and flight simulator 2002, and let me tell you, there is a huge difference.
I must warn you, however, I only recommend this game for people who actually are looking to virtual fly. The aim of this game is to be realistic, and that is accomplished. So no, there are no guns attatched to the planes or anything out of the ordinary. This game sticks to the real thing. The "real thing" as I say in this game is extremely real. Where ever you fly, and whatever plane you're in, Microsoft Flight Simulator 2002 delivers an unbeatable experience (except for the real thing.) Since the game consists of, well, flying, that's what I will be talking about most of the time. In Flight Simulator you can only fly, nevertheless the game makes it worth it. Let me say, the graphics are stunning. Anywhere you go in the world, there are always remarkable graphics to amaze you. The textures in the clouds and water also add to the realism when flying due to their real appearance. In this version of flight simulator you can go anywhere on the Earth, literaly. Now that they've included a float-plane, you can land, takeoff, and skim accros any body of water. Flight Simulator also adds in noticable landmarks such as the Great Pyramids, and the CN Tower which are always fun to fly around. The game also gives you a wide variety of aircraft to choose from. You can go as little as a Cessna to as big as a Boeing 747! The range of aircraft will probably never put an end to your flying experience. However, if you have the game too long, you may become a little bored of flying the same old airplane again. Not a problem. If you check on the internet, there are many web-sites that let you download some remarkable, and strange aircraft. I myself have already downloaded a fighter plane, and a Space Shuttle! In Microsoft Flight Simulator 2002, you can actually interact with the game by contacting the Air Traffic Control. You don't have to use this feature, but asking for permission to take off and land increase the realism. Weather also adds to the realism of the game. You can actually download the real weather of the place you are flying in, if you have internet connection. The sounds in this game are fairly basic. All of the aircraft's sounds seem very accurate. There is one thing the game offers that has made me to believe this is the greatest flight simulator: the choice of location. Of course the whole game is about flying, so Microsoft has put in close to every airport around the globe. If your small town has an airport, I assure you this game has it.
There really isn't any downfall to this game, except that it can get boring after a while. I hate to say this about a great game, but flying over nothing but water for a couple hours just doesn't thrill me. Also, this game requires a descent computer, and lots of hard drive space. So, if you are a hardcore flyer, get this game.
