The Bottom Line Follow these simple directions to put together a fabulous, impressive, personalized gift!
Uh oh! It is time to give a gift. You want it to be special, creative, a reflection upon your special relationship with the recipient, but you don't want to break the bank, and you aren't exactly Picasso.
Here is how you can craft a truly personal gift, which will almost certainly impress the recipient with your thoughtfulness, creativity, and resourcefulness: Put together a professional looking gift basket yourself.
Don't stop reading, it is really easy. There are 3 keys to doing this successfully:
1) Is to have some idea of what your recipient likes.
2) An inexpensive, but attractive basket or container. You can purchase one at Pier 1 Imports, but most crafts stores also have them.
3) Be aware that you can easily buy clear cellophane wrapping paper, the kind you see wrapped around expensive gift baskets, gathered at the top and tied with a ribbon. This (and the ribbon) can be bought at most crafts stores and also at Hallmark and other greeting cards stores.
I recently put together a basket for a tea lover. I went to Pier 1 Imports and got a small tea-for-one teapot, but I could have used a pretty mug instead. I also included a small sampler of teas and some cookies and a small jar of honey. I purchased an inexpensive cloth napkin and used it to line the basket. Then I put the tea pot, cookies, tea sampler, and honey in the basket. I wrapped the whole thing up with cellophane wrap I bought for $3.50 at Hallmark. I tied the top with a bow of pretty ribbon (regifted from someone's gift to me), and cut the top of the cellophane so that it was even and bushed out in a flower shape.
There! Easy as pie.
You can do this with toiletries, using a washcloth as liner in the container. Or try using candles and candle holders
and potpourri. You can even put together a spaghetti dinner with a pretty bowl, pasta, sauce, serving spoon, and napkins. For a bridal shower gift give an ice bucket lined with a simple cloth napkin, a bottle of champaign, and 2 glasses. The sky's the limit.
Don't forget to tell the recipient you put this whole thing together yourself, they'll appreciate the effort.

About Me: A patient asked if I ever have problems.
"Do physicians ever get sick?" I replied.
