AFter 6 years in a 99 Nav, and an 01 Nav, I found I had to downsize a bit. Since I liked the looks of my Navs so much, you can understand why I looked at the aviator.
Well, I drove away 2 weeks ago in one feeling that it was nice, but clearly second string compared to the 04 full size nav. My experience these last 2 weeks has just about got me turning a corner.
Sure, there's some tradeoffs with both, but the handling, agility, cornering, braking, and parking with this aviator is clearly superior to the Nav!!! After I bought it I started checking the specs against other mid size SUVs and am pleasantly surprised. The 0-60 times, quarter mile times, slalom cornering times, stopping distances, are extremely competitive with the likes of Accura MDX, BMW X5, and even the non-supercharged Porche Cayenne. Combine this with the ability to buy the car for $6k less than sticker with 0% financing - and I'm one happy camper.
Every one of my friends who has driven it can't believe the tight handling and cornering. I guess the words Lincoln and SUV don't inspire much awe with regard to road handling, but I'm telling you, the Aviator is a wonderful exception.
If these things appeal to you, give one a try.
