The Bottom Line Tips for Parents
How well I remember the long 'To Do' lists I prepared to make the most of summer vacations when my kids were smaller and didn't mind spending time with mom.
Included were:
Crafts
•Magazine collages
•Finger painting
•Vegetable Printing (using vegetables and paint)
•Glue colored yarn collages
•Make paper plate masks
•Coloring
•Clay
•Make Place mats
•Make picture frames or refrigerator magnets (out of puzzle pieces, macaroni, shells, silk flowers, or miniature pine cones or seed pods)
•Make a paper mosaic
•Make gift wrap
•Tie-dye a T-shirt with matching socks
•Craft on a tissue box
•Take broken crayons and make crayon muffins (fill 1/2 muffin tins lined with paper and warm at 350 until melted 10 - 20 minutes)

•Pool
•Library
•Museums
•Nature hikes
•Go to the Zoo
•Go to the Airport and watch the planes land
Activities
•Puzzles
•Reading
•Run through the sprinkler
•Cards
•Have them write and illustrate their own Auto Biography
•Have them write a Newsletter to relatives on the computer.
•Set up a lemonade stand or toy yard sale
•Shop for toys at garage sales
•Go fishing
•Build a model
•Make water balloons
•Make a terrarium in a large jar
•Fly a kite
•Rent a video
•Go berry picking
•Watch the start and name the constellations
•Paint the ceiling (with glow in the dark paint) with the constellations
•Camp in the backyard
•Start a rock collection
Recipes
•Frozen Juice Pops in paper cups with sticks
•Make a bird feeder with pine cones, peanut butter and bird seed. Hang from a •tree with string.
•Plan a candlelight dinner
•Plan a picnic
Try alternating an activity with a craft or field trip and so forth so they feel balanced and include family favorites. Please let me know of any teenage activities or crafts that work well with your sons. If it were up to them they would alternate TV with a video game and a trip to the mall with an occasional, "I'm bored." It was so much more fun when they were younger.
