| mixer107's Full Review: Dyson DC07 steel / yellow Upright Vacuum |
I cant believe it. Im the type of person that hates cleaning, vacuuming especially. But for some reason, the Dyson Root Cyclone DC07 actually makes me want to vacuum. A lot of it has to do with the fact that it has a clear chamber that lets you see all the junk youre picking up. Although that may just be psychological, this vacuum does an excellent jump picking up dirt compared to other vacuums Ive tried in the past.
I found out about this vacuum through a friend, who raved about it. I was skeptical about the unit, especially since it looks like some sort of futuristic toy. But after all the research I conducted on the vacuum, I decided to take the plunge and purchase one.
Using the Vacuum
The Dyson is an upright vacuum and easy to maneuver even though it isnt that lightweight. The suction out of this vacuum is the best Ive ever seen. You will be amazed how much dirt and dust it pulls up the first time you use it. I filled the whole bottom of my canister within the first minute of use! Pet owners will also be happy as it was able to pull out hair and fur as well. The motorized brush in the carpet setting is very vigorous, which may not be such a good thing for delicate carpet. On hardwood floors, the motorized brush is not used, and the unit also performs well. The only thing I do not like about using the vacuum on hardwood floors are the plastic wheels because they dont seem to roll as good as rubber wheels.
One of the main attractions of this vacuum for me is the lifetime HEPA filter. Unlike other HEPA filters, you can wash and re-use the HEPA and avoid costly filter replacements.
The DC07 also comes with three attachments: stair tool, a brush tool, and a crevice tool. The attachments are connected to a hose which can extend over 10 feet. While the stretch length of the hose is very far, the attachments become harder to use the farther you go because of the extra tension.
Cleaning the Vacuum
Cleaning the vacuum is fairly easy. The dirt chamber easily pops out of the unit and all you have to do is pull a level to dispose of the dirt. You may occasionally also want to rinse the chamber with water to get rid of the dust that doesnt fall out.
The lifetime HEPA is also great. Cleaning the filter is also easy by rinsing it in water and letting it air dry.
Build Quality
The body of the Dyson is mainly build out of plastic, with some rubber seals that hold different pieces together. The plastic is tough and gives the vacuum a sturdy feel. You have to be careful when hauling the vacuum around. Sometimes you might kick one of the plastic pieces off near the base of the unit if youre not careful. This will cause a loss of performance of the vacuum, but youll notice the difference.
The longevity of the hose may also be in question. The hose is made of a spring (kind of like a slinky) that is encased in a thin plastic. It gets stretched out over time and use, the hose may become harder to use. Im always worried about getting it twisted and therefore am very careful when I use the hose.
Conclusion
The Dyson is an excellent vacuum, but the high price is one of the biggest factors in someones decision to purchase this product. I was very hesitant of making the purchase because of the price, especially since there are vacuum cleaners out there that are 3 times cheaper. Overall, this was an excellent purchase for me not only because its a great vacuum, but its a vacuum that actually makes me want to clean!
