Pros: Excellent page-turner. Author clearly has a command of literary prose and writing.
Cons: A little slow at the 2/3 mark, but then took off like a jet plane.
The Bottom Line: I would definitely recommend this book to others. It's sort of a female version of The Catcher in the Rye; with the main character Catching Lemmings instead.

I truly enjoyed this book. It was definitely a page turner, not being able to put it down for a day and a half. It's a quick read with a fun story that brings you inside the characters head. The story is told from the first person of Eliza, who the author allows us to get inside her head. As a single guy in Manhattan, I found it an enjoyable ride to go along with.
There is also a corresponding subplot that Eliza is pursuing her dream and writing a childrens book simultaneously. She's a talented writer, and it appeared to me that some of this writing technique was borrowed by "Jay McInerney" (Bright Lights Big City - remember Coma Baby), who is also mentioned in the book. It's a story of Eliza the Lemming, who refuses to go along with the status quo and is able to eventually escape the treachery of life and travel to exotic places.
Yes, it's Eliza's alter ego, and few readers will make the connection that the Lemmings are also from a Scandinavian Country, which also happens to be where her mothers Swen from an affair was also from. Eliza deals with her feelings towards her mothers affair with having to deal with many of the same issues herself. Shall she save the Lemmings or let them jump in the Sea and die. Will some of the Lemmings make it across to safer land?
The perfect Elizabeth is a combination of the two daughters of the professor / hippie type parents. Brought up in the age of free love and extreme intellect. Combined, The Perfect Elizabeth forms a perfect alliance that is reflected in the strength of the parents union. When separated things don't go that well, but when together they are able to grow and bring in new life experiences.
I would say that this work was a definite page-turner and I would like to see Eliza in a sequel, it's that good.
