The Bottom Line
I don't recommend using UBid to my friends. In fact, I discourage it. If you DO use Ubid, pay close attention to shipping details.

I'm an online shopper. I love discounts. I love the convenience of shopping at home. I actively shop on several online auctions services. UBid initially seemed great to me. A friend recommended it to me. I checked it out and enjoyed it. My first few purchases from UBid worked out nicely. Until I decided to buy something big.
Things UBid had going for it:
1. It had a pretty good setup for navigation.
2. It had a nice way of keeping track of my bids.
3. It clearly stated the date and the time that the auction would be ending.
4. You could keep track of all of your auctions on one page and whether or not you had been outbid.
5. It had a good selection of certain items.
The downsides:
1. While it had a good selection of certain items, it didn't offer quite the selection that I hoped for.
2. When the auction neared it's closing time, if someone outbid me in the last few minutes, the auction was extended. This led to auctions going on quite a bit longer than the stated closing time because every time a new bid was entered, they extended bidding for ten minutes to allow time for others to counter bid.
3. This is one of the biggest. Beware of shipping costs! My first few purchases were relatively small, and therefore shipping costs were fine. However, my last purchase (and it will remain my last purchase) was a computer chair. I won the bid for the chair at $49. Imagine my surprise when my credit card was charged $120! Turns out there was a HUGE shipping charge, which they did NOT clearly explain. And that brings me to number 4.
4. Horrible customer service. When I called the customer service to inquire about the large charge and found out how much the shipping charges were, I complained that the shipping charges were not clearly indicated. The only course of option that I was given at that point was that if I didn't want it, I could ship it back and they would refund the $49 I paid for the chair. However, I had to pay the shipping charge they charged me for sending it AND I would have to pay to send it back. I would end up spending even MORE than the $120 they already charged me and I wouldn't have the chair. Needless to say, I kept the chair and won't be shopping there again.
To give them credit, it is a nice chair. Not worth $120 however.
